June 29, 1953 - March 10, 2022, Las Vegas, Nevada
Marc Allen Goldberg, age 68, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2022 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, following a valiant eighteen-month battle with Esophageal Cancer.
Marc was born in Philadelphia, PA to Vivian Joyce and Marty Goldberg on June 29, 1953. Shortly after his birth, Marc’s mom, sister Anne, and Marc joined his father in Las Vegas following the opening of the Sands Hotel. Marc’s great aunt and uncle, Sadie and Jake Freedman, were the founders of the Sands Hotel, and Uncle Jake asked Marc’s dad to join him at the Sands in liquor operations due to his experience in owning night clubs and bars in Philadelphia.
Marc attended elementary and middle schools, and Valley High School, in Las Vegas, and made many lifelong friends along the way. Marc was employed as a blackjack and roulette dealer at Caesar’s Palace for most of his adult life, finally retiring due to his disability from a severe auto accident when he was 27 years old. Prior to his accident, Marc was an avid skier who spent most of his days off during ski season at Brian Head and other Utah ski resorts. Marc loved life in general, and particularly loved road trips to Southern California, every kind of music, science fiction, comedy of all types, and he was crazy about the Vegas Golden Knights. Marc had the great gift of a quick wit from early childhood, and he loved to have fun. Marc had an exceptional memory for people, faces, names, numbers, movie dialogue, and historical facts, especially about the early days of gaming in his beloved home, Las Vegas. His sense of humor, generosity, and respect for all attracted a widely diverse group of friends. He will be deeply missed. Marc was a devout Christian who believed in the Lord, and we know he’s in heaven, pain-free, and lovingly watching over all of us.
Marc is survived by his life partner of many years, Judy Kaye; his daughter, Megan Marie West; his grandson, Parker Joseph West; his older sister, Anne Hodgdon; and his beloved cat and dearest companion, Emily. Marc was predeceased by his mother, Joyce Goldberg, and his father, Marty Goldberg.
We are grateful to Marc’s caring and brilliant oncologist, Dr. Fadi Braiteh, who promised Marc from the outset that his goal was to keep Marc alive as long as Marc could have a high quality of life, and he more than fulfilled his promise.
Interment will be at Palm Mortuary, Eastern Avenue. Marc chose cremation, and no formal funeral services are planned. However, a celebration of Marc’s life is being planned. Arrangements will be posted on Marc Goldberg’s Facebook page, so please check there for details within the next few weeks.
