Larry G. Cajthaml, 74, of Glendale, AZ passed in his sleep on January 4, 2023. He was born on September 16, 1948, in Ellsworth, Kansas to Alfred “Cy” and Edith Eileen Cajthaml. Larry married Susan Jackson on August 7, 1976. Susan preceded him in death in 2004, along with his parents and two brothers, Jim and Richard.
Larry attended Maryvale High School and graduated in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, completed basic training in Lackland AFB, and served in England, Minot, North Dakota, and Tan Son Nhut AFB during the Vietnam War. Larry fulfilled his enlistment in 1973.
He returned to Phoenix to work with his father and brothers in construction. On August 7, 1976, he married Susan Jackson—his loving wife for the next 28 years. In 1977, they welcomed their first child, Larry II, followed by their daughter, Tracee, in 1979.
Larry began working at a local stock brokerage firm and investment banker, Young, Smith and Peacock, before moving to Peacock, Hislop, Staley & Given, in 1987. While there, Larry served as Senior Vice President of Municipal Trading until the company was acquired by Wedbush in 2008. Larry continued in that role until his retirement in 2012. Larry enjoyed being part of the Stock and Bond club and helped organize their annual events.
Larry became a grandfather in 2000 with the birth of his first grandson, Caleb, followed by David in 2002 and his only granddaughter, Ember, in 2006. Larry’s grandkids were the light of his life. The grandkids could do no wrong in his eyes. He loved taking them on vacations, discussing history and books, and watching sports with them. He loved to tease his granddaughter—his one and only pumpkin pie. He was a loyal Arizona sports fan, patient fisherman, ferocious reader, morning crossword puzzle enthusiast, and shared these hobbies with his grandchildren whenever possible.
Larry was not only a great grandfather but a great father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend to so many. There is not enough time or space to express the privilege it was to be part of his life. Larry said goodbye to this side doing what he loved—smoking, gambling, and spending time with his family (this coming from his granddaughter, Ember) while in Las Vegas. Larry has made it home to his beloved wife, parents, and so many loved ones we miss dearly.
Larry is survived by his son, daughter, grandsons, and granddaughter. In addition to his brother Ed (Lori) of Floyd, Iowa, sisters Marilyn “Lynn” Hislop (Tom), Evelyn Reed, and sister-in-law Joan Cajthaml. He leaves behind many others he loved especially his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Heritage Funeral Chapels – 6830 W. Thunderbird Peoria, AZ 85381 at 11:00 am. An open house will follow at the family residence.
