Kyle E Kanie, 63, of Las Vegas passed away on June 16, 2023 from post-surgery complications. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Jack and Inse Kanie in Yakima, Washington. The family moved to Las Vegas when Kyle was 4 years old. He spent his school years between Las Vegas, San Diego, and Shingle Springs, CA. He grew up loving to play team sports and working on cars. Kyle permanently moved back to Las Vegas in 1982 where he became a machinist/mechanic working with family at Universal Automotive Machine. He loved being involved with all kinds of car racing and working on high performance motors.
He met and married his love, Ann Clark, in 1985 and they had one son, Shane. Kyle then changed careers and became a union sprinkler fitter following his apprenticeship with Local 669 and Penn State. He continued in this career until his retirement and had many stories about working in the construction boom of Las Vegas, including properties such as MGM, New York New York, Venetian, and The Orleans, to name a few. He loved the downtown properties and continued to do fire protection consulting for The D Hotel during retirement.
When he wasn’t working on hotels, he was supporting his son as a youth football coach in soccer, baseball, and football. Wins and losses were important, but the development of young individuals was much more important to Kyle. As a youth coach, he constantly preached the importance of doing the right thing.
Kyle always enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to fish and visit Ely, Nevada. Ely always seemed to be Kyle’s “Happy Place”, especially on his annual brothers’ trips with Kirk and Keith Kanie. He was always game for a spontaneous trip somewhere, so off Kyle and Annie would go. Kyle was very proud of his son, Shane, football coach at Cimarron-Memorial High School. Kyle always made it a point to help organize and run the football concession stand during every home game. Kyle always dreamed of coaching high school athletics, but was very proud of Shane for being able to live out his dreams. When he wasn’t helping with football on Fridays, he would spend his weekends playing pickleball. Kyle would consistently arrive early to Durango Hills, Lone Mountain Park, and Police Memorial Park to make sure the courts were clean for all players. He loved meeting new people who wanted to learn the sport, and he made it a point to personally take time to teach them. Many pickleball players have become close family friends.
Kyle loved his relatives deeply. He is survived by his wife, Ann Clark- Kanie, and son, Shane Kanie; his brothers Kirk Kanie, Keith (Tina) Kanie, Kris Kean; his sisters Judy (Tom) Henry and Janet Donoho. Kyle is also mourned by all of Ann’s family. The loss of Kyle will be felt by many beloved nieces, nephews, his Aunt Lois, and many friends. There will forever only be one Kyle Earl, and he will be deeply missed!
