Born in Colorado on July 8, 1968, Kathryn was the youngest of eight children. She was an intelligent, intuitive, and a responsible child who had many interests. She loved school, and when she was a young woman she participated in gymnastics. She became very talented at the sport, but an injury on the balance beam stopped her from competing.
In High School she showed an interest in singing, and joined her High School chorus and became the President of the Centralettes, an all Women's choir, in her senior year.
Kathryn graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1986 and so begins her College years.
Kathryn received her bachelor's degree in Music Theory and Performance from the University of Colorado on the Denver Campus in 1990. Kathryn performed an array of genres, from Opera, Classical, Soul, and Rock n Roll. During her College years, Kathryn took on many gigs, from performing in small venues, and was the Cantor for the Holy Ghost Church in Denver.
In her post College years, Kathryn kept performing at many venues, and stayed as a Cantor with the Holy Ghost Church, while working administrative jobs to pay the bills.
In 1994, Kathryn Grace decided that she was ready to have an adventure and utilize her skills as a performer. She packed up her old car and moved to Las Vegas. She stayed with her Aunt Jan Martin for about a year. Those first years were hard, as she needed to work her day job and go to as many auditions as she could in the evenings and weekends. Her perseverance paid off, and she began performing at various venues throughout Las Vegas. During this time she met many new friends and performers who respected her work, and were in awe of her voice. She met and sang in a trio of three women who sang Hip Hop and they shared a home together. Now she could eat more than ramen noodles and buy new clothes!
Around 1998, she was asked to sing in a backup band where she met a handsome guitar player named Rick Chavez. They became fast friends, realized that they were soul mates, and wanted to spend their lives together. On 9/25/1999 Kathryn and Rick married and they began a 21 year journey together until Rick passed away on 2/20/2021. They had a beautiful relationship and supported each other's life journeys. They would perform together anytime the opportunity would present itself. During this time, Kathryn decided that she would like to receive her Master’s degree in business and began her study with Western Governors University. She worked hard and completed her MBA in two years, while working full time. She said she could not have done it without Rick’s support.
Kathryn was an inquisitive woman, who was interested in learning about herself and her soul
purpose. Around 2015, Kathryn decided that she wanted to work on her spirituality and began seeking what felt right for her. She felt a connection with nature and the spirit energy, and knew there was a peaceful plane elsewhere. While exploring this, she became a Certified Oracle Guide and Empowerment Coach, and began her Friday reading and uplifting messages on her Kathryn Chavez Facebook Club, which consisted of 150 members. She wanted to uplift women and men, so that they could live to their highest potential, and feel a sense of importance in this world. Her spiritual family described her as a beautiful light where you felt an instant peaceful energy while interacting with her. They found her funny, and she always had time to spend with anyone who needed to talk.
She was a loving Aunt and Step-Mother, who showed interest in each individual child. She encouraged their interests and supported them, while following up to make sure that they were putting in the effort to succeed. When finding out that one of her nephews was learning how to play guitar, she sent him a proper guitar and introduced him to the Beatles song “In My Life”. He still plays and has said she contributed greatly to his growth as a musician. She tried to come and support and celebrate all of the kids' milestones as much as she could, and kept up with them through social media.
She was deeply loved, and will be greatly missed.
