Jose Luis Rodriguez Montanez, age 74, a resident of Las Vegas since 1979, passed away August 12, 2018. Born January 29, 1944 to Pompilio Rodriguez and Ana Maria Montanez in Santurce, Puerto Rico. At the age of two he was brought to the United States where he attended Westinghouse High School in Brooklyn New York. While there he learned many vocational trades. As a teen his passions were boxing, which he never lost, and handball.
Jose served in the United States Air Force for 21 years, one month. He retired in 1983. He worked as a fireman, helicopter rescue for ten years, and then transferred into aircraft environmental system engineer. He also worked at Alexis Park and resort as an electrical engineer until his final retirement in 2001.
In 1961 he met the love of his life, Myrta Rojas, a native of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. They both began their life long careers in 1962, he in the Air Force and her in nursing. Jose and Myrta were married on February 20, 1965.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 53 years; his children Jose Jr. and Manuel; his grandchildren Jessica, Jose III, Mareo, Lynette, Alisah, Manuel Jr.; six great-grandchildren; and his cousins Jose A. Rodriguez and Migdalia Cantone. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and neighbor. He was also a good handyman to his neighbors. He is truly missed.
