Jorge Acosta, 83 Jorge Manuel Acosta, loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on April 19, 2017 at 5:01 PM, surrounded by his family in Las Vegas, Nevada.Jorge was born November 2, 1933 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Luis and Ester Acosta. But his mother refused to register his birth until the 3rd because its bad luck to be born on Dia De Los Muertos. George with a "J," as he was fond of telling anyone who asked, could accomplish anything he set his mind to—be it fixing an engine, making wine or building an outdoor BBQ and pizza oven. Jorge started working with his father at age 15 in the printing industry, as a typesetter and letterpress operator. He immigrated to the United States arriving in Los Angeles, California with his wife and two young sons. With no language skills, he began working as a dishwasher—proud of his $1.25 per hour wage. He eventually made his way back to printing, while continuing his education to obtain licensing in aircraft mechanics; ultimately retiring after 28 years as a Jet Mechanic from Continental Airlines. Jorge had many hobbies, watching soccer, dancing (Salsa and Tango naturally), and a favorite was upholstery—especially bringing new life to old furniture and building miniature wing back chairs from scratch. You could always find him working in his garden or garage. He loved anything mechanical and always had one or more projects in the works. Jorge and his wife Giorgina kept an open home where family and friends were always welcome for big parties, holidays, and especially grandchildren to learn treasured recipes like homemade pasta, gnocchi and empanadas. Jorge, aka Abuelo, Nonno or even El Viejo, whichever name you used for him, was always at the fire pit as the grill master and consummate teacher. He and Giorgina loved to travel, and made many trips to Europe, South America and the Caribbean. His favorite being Italy, Giorgina's birthplace. He is survived by his loving wife Giorgina of 34 years; her three daughters, Elia, Mirella, Gina and their families, his two sons from a previous marriage Esteban and Andrés Acosta and their families. He will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital www.stjude.org/Donate or American Heart Association. Please dedicate your donations in honor of Jorge M Acosta.
