Jonathan Juan Perez was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Jonathan will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
He was the son of Marie and Anthony Perez and grew up in Hawaii. Jonathan was raised with eight siblings: Jan, JR, Addie, Nalu, Norma, Manny, DeeDee, and Paul. Jonathan was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. As a young boy, Jonathan had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it, and loved animals. However, to Jonathan, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his siblings and friends.
A typical teenager, Jonathan had a happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. His favorite class in high school was wood shop and lunch hour, and he also loved football. He graduated from Waipahu High School in 1961, where he met his high school sweetheart, Cheryl. After high school, he went to trade school to be a Master Glazier.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Jonathan enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his best friends were Larry, Wendell, Domi, and his brother, JR.
In 1963 Jonathan exchanged wedding vows with Cheryl Cabillon at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church of Pearl City, Hawaii. Empathic and loyal, Jonathan was committed to making his wife happy. Jonathan worked hard to be good to his family and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Jonathan was blessed with five children: three sons, Michael, Rob, and Jon, and two daughters, Shellee Ann and Bonnie Michelle.
Fortunately, Jonathan enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Jonathan worked diligently and did his best to be the best in his career. His primary occupation was as a Journeyman Master Glazier. He worked for over forty years in his trade before he retired.
Jonathan enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. He was a great bowler, and coached kid’s football. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Jonathan found pleasure in sports. He loved gamecock fighting. Jonathan was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite football games whenever he had the chance to do so. The Pittsburgh Steelers were his favorite team.
Jonathan’s faith was important to him. He was baptized a Catholic and then converted to Christianity.
Jonathan enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included going to the Outer Islands to bowl, and visiting Las Vegas.
When Jonathan’s retirement finally arrived in 2009, he was well prepared. His new life involved enjoying thirty-two years in Las Vegas. Even in retirement, Jonathan continued to stay in touch with his family while making new acquaintances. Jonathan was as a husband and father and grandfather, and he felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him. Most of all, he enjoyed his twenty grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and wife of fifty-nine years.
Jonathan passed away on January 16, 2023 at Las Vegas, due to COPD with pulmonary fibrosis and hypertension. He is survived by his five children and wife, Cheryl. Services were held at Palm Southwest Mortuary.
Simply stated, Jonathan was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Jonathan leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Jonathan Juan Perez.
