John was born on September 2, 1937 in New Meadows, Idaho to Lige and Clara (Jasper) Wallace. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1956. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, he met Anita Bravo. They fell in love and were married on October 18, 1958. John and Anita were married for 47 years and raised three children. He worked for Mission Linen Industries for 38 years and retired at age 65.
John treasured his memories as a young boy on his family’s ranch which was known as the “Wolf Place” near Roseberry, Idaho. Through his father’s example on the ranch he acquired a love for animals, especially horses. He also picked up a work ethic that could not be matched. John was an impressive boxer in his late teens and early twenties. His mother was proud of her son and kept the newspaper clippings of all his matches. John also had a special place in his heart for dogs which has been inherited by his children.
John was a master mechanic. If a piece of machinery needed repair, John could tackle the chore. If he couldn’t find a needed part for an outdated machine, he would make it out of the countless parts and scraps of metal he collected. After all, a person never knows when something might be useful again. During retirement, he could often be found in his shed tinkering and working on any number of projects. John could also be described as a prankster and a person with a quick wit. His family and friends were entertained by his pearls of wisdom. John and his brother George could have written a top seller of adages and pranks.
John will be greatly missed. He loved his family fiercely and they loved him. His children and grandchildren will miss walking into his home and hearing the never-ending episodes of Gunsmoke and other westerns on the television. The Waltons were a daily favorite too. Mary Martin, John’s sister, once expressed words after the death of her father Lige. John’s family feels the same way after his death. Her words were, “The sun will come up tomorrow, but our world will never be the same.”
John was preceded in death by his wife Anita and his brother George. He is survived by his sister Mary and his three children Debra, John, and Cynthia. He was also a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandchildren are Katrina, Jessica, Lisette and Johnny and his great-grandchildren are Liam, Lucas, Anne and Jack.
A funeral service is scheduled on March 11th at Palm Eastern Mortuary located at 7600 South Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, Nevada. Pastor Jeff Long will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Vegas Shepherd Rescue at https://www.vegasshepherdrescue.com.
