John Joseph "Jack" McDonald, 87, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2013. John was born in Butte, Mont., June 21, 1925, to Frank and Margie McDonald. He is survived by his two daughters, Jacquelyn McDonald Lavin and Kerry Lee McDonald; his son, Michael J. McDonald and his fiancee, Jolette; two grandchildren, TJ and Brooke Lavin; and two great-grandchildren, Justice and Aspen Lavin all of Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, of 61 years, Doris Adair McDonald; and his two sons-in-law, Terry Pinter and Tommy Lavin. John met his wife at a dance in Butte in 1944. They were married Jan. 11, 1952 and they moved to Las Vegas in 1960. John worked in the casino industry until his retirement in 1990; after that he pursued his love of football and travelled to see many Notre Dame University games. His final vacation with his family was to see Notre Dame beat USC! In his younger years, John was active in his community with at risk youth and was honored in 2012 when the Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Councilman Steve Wolfson and the Las Vegas City Council renamed the football complex at All American Park after him. That complex will now forever be known as the John J. McDonald Football Complex. Everyone knew John as "Dad" or "Mr. Mac," he was heavily involved in many political campaigns and travelled all over the state where he made many friends; he will be missed by all of them, but, his absence will be most evident to the children he leaves behind. Father Dave Casaleggio will be leading us as we pray the Rosary 6-7 p.m. that evening, at Palm Mortuary (downtown location), 1325 N. Main St., Las Vegas, NV 89101. Funeral Mass will be celebration at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at St. Francis De Sales, 1111 N. Michael Way, Las Vegas, NV 89108.
