John was born January 28th, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and served in Korea until he was discharged in 1957. In New Jersey, he owned and worked at his hair salon for many years. After relocating to Las Vegas in 1980, he worked in the gaming industry in several race and sports books. His passion was betting on sports and horse racing. He was known to say "one day I will be going to the big racetrack in the sky". He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, swimming at the beach, and eating Italian food with his beloved family.
He is survived by his spouse of 59 years Florence Laurice of Las Vegas. He is also survived by his two daughters: Dina Herald (Phil) of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Laurie Olbur (Brett) of Las Vegas, Nevada and five grandchildren: John Herald (Andie), Christine Herald (Chase), Craig Rice, Casey Rice (Emily), Christopher Rice, and four step granddaughters. He is also survived by his brother Sal Laurice of Oakland, New Jersey.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Laurice and his brother Joseph Laurice.
