On the evening of March 17, 2024, Elbert Gerald Allred, known as Jerry Allred, passed away at the age of 83. Jerry was born in Glendale, California to Elbert O. Allred and Elva Geraldine Aulds. He graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in Sunland, California in 1959 and moved to Beaumont, Texas to help open the family business, Allred Motors, which was a Volkswagen dealership. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont where he studied business, and married Mary Frances Locke in 1962. After the family dealership in Texas was sold, he and Mary moved to Las Vegas in 1965 where he joined the family business Sunland Motors, which was a Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche dealership, and served as General Manager. Jerry served in the US Air Force and Air Force Reserves from 1961 to 1967, finishing his service at Nellis Air Force Base. Jerry was a reserve Sheriff’s Deputy for the Clark County Sheriff’s Department from 1965 until 1973, a pilot, and a race car driver, racing Formula Vee and Porsche cars until 1969. Jerry and Mary had 4 children, Donald (“Tip”), Alan, Sandra and Lance and were married over 49 years before her death in 2012. During his time at Sunland Motors, Jerry served on the Board of Employers Association of Southern Nevada and the Board of Nevada Franchised Auto Dealers Association, as well as was the President of the Las Vegas New Car Dealers Association. In 1985, Sunland Motors was sold and Jerry and his older sister, Pat, began a partnership, owning and renting commercial properties, which they continued to this day. During his life, Jerry was a Mason of Oasis 41, a Shriner and charter member of the Zelzah Temple, and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. As Jerry loved to ride his Harley Davidson, at the time of his death he was still riding with the motorcycle groups Widows Sons and Jesters on Wheels, and active in the local H.O.G. Chapters of Las Vegas and Black Mountain. Jerry had also been a member of the Shriners Motor Patrol, serving as a Commander, and part of the Imperial Transportation Committee, serving as a Imperial Parade Chairman. During his life, Jerry also served as a Board Member for the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Southern California, as Treasurer for St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, as a volunteer for the National Finals Rodeo and was named Outstanding Volunteer, as a volunteer for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Golf Open, and as a member of the Boulder Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. In 2015, Jerry married Sandra Backus and they left the ceremony riding on his Harley. Together, they have toured all 50 states and Mexico on the Harley and have traveled extensively in their 5th wheel with their puppy, Maddie. Jerry is preceded in death by his oldest son, Tip. Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandy; his sister, Pat; his children Alan, Sandy (Aaron), Lance and Shea (Marc); his grandchildren, Haley, Sydney, Lance, Jade, Kylie, Nicolas, Alyssa, Aubrey and Ashley; his great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Saylor and Octavia; and his nephew, Robert.
A visitation for Elbert will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. A visitation will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. A graveside service will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Palm Eastern Cemetery, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jerry’s name to the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Southern California, St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Las Vegas or H.O.G. Nation of Patriots.
