Janine Ann Lascelles left this world September 18, 2019, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Janine was born March 16, 1955 in Flint, Michigan to James Lawrence Daunt and Betty Ann Reisig. She was the oldest of 4 children born to their union.
She spent her first eleven years near her large extended family in Michigan. In 1966 the young family packed up their car and headed for Daytona Beach, Florida.
One fateful night 16 year old Janine was out with friends and met John Lascelles, another Seabreeze High School student. John and Janine began dating and John quickly became an honorary member of the crazy Daunt family.
Following her graduation from Seabreeze in 1973, Janine went to work for CF Pool Supply. This would be a job she would return to throughout the years.
On August 12, 1977 Janine and John were married. Daughter Jenna was born two years later. The young family then moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico for John to attend acupuncture school. Daughter Jade was born while in New Mexico. New Mexico remained home until 1987, when John’s father became ill in Florida and the family returned to Daytona Beach.
The family eventually returned to New Mexico, opening Body Tek Fitness Center. After selling the business they settled in Lago Vista, Texas. While in Texas Janine worked as an event coordinator for a golf course. Janine was always happiest on the water, and their homes in Texas were on a lake, allowing Janine to spend many days boating.
After a brief move to Orlando, Florida, John and Janine settled in Las Vegas, Nevada in the summer of 1999. Janine continued her event coordinator career, and John and Janine built a successful carpet cleaning company in Las Vegas. While the move was to be fairly temporary, Las Vegas became home.
Janine became a grandmother in 2000 and she cherished her role as a “fun grandma”. She loved baking with her grandkids, trips to Disneyland with them, playing board games, and teaching them all the “bad” words while driving. When her first grandchild was born she insisted she’d never be called Grandma and they’d come up with a cool name for her. Grandma stuck though and it became the name she was most proud of.
Janine never met a stranger. She could be in line at the grocery store and make a new best friend, leaving with someone’s entire life story. Her heart and home were always open to anyone in need of a place to stay or a hot meal.
Janine was always full of life and active and on the go. While it was very difficult for her to no longer be so active following her diagnosis, she remained positive and upbeat throughout her treatments and put up a very hard fight. She was surrounded by love and was overwhelmed by those who called, emailed, texted and flew out to help her.
Janine was preceded in death by her father James Daunt. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, John, of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Jenna Daunt, of Las Vegas, NV; Daughter Jade Lascelles (Mike), of Boulder, CO; Grandson Aydin Gundogan, of Reno, NV; Granddaughters Selma Gundogan and Leyla Gundogan, both of Las Vegas, NV; father of her grandchildren Aladdin Gundogan, of Las Vegas, NV; mother Betty Daunt, of Albuquerque, NM; brother Michael Daunt, of Albuquerque, NM; sister Kristine Blackman (Phillip), of Corrales, NM; sister Andrea Kidd (Dennis), of Albuquerque, NM; nephew Bo Kidd, of Albuquerque, NM; niece Veronica Kidd, of Albuquerque, NM; lifelong friend and soul sister Ada Conner, of Santa Barbara California; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Janine’s wishes were to be cremated and have her cremated remains placed at the Neptune Memorial Reef off the coast of Key West. A private family viewing and cremation will take place in Las Vegas, and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Florida prior to her placement.
To honor her memory please spend a day by the water. Whether that be the ocean, lake, or pool. And love hard. Life may end, but love remains.
