He joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and became an aircraft mechanic. After his honorable military service, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and met the love of his life, Rhonda.
He joined the Clark County Fire Department in the early 70s, where he spent many years as a Captain. He taught countless others to serve their communities and return safely home to their families. He led his teams with conviction and confidence, often fighting for the underdogs and standing up for what he felt was right, regardless of consequences.
After his retirement in 1996, he spent his days relentlessly caring for his family. He played with his grandchildren, cooked for his wife, and guided his daughters into adulthood.
James lived his life for others. Whether it was his family, his team of firefighters, or his community, his sense of duty and unending courage were the hallmarks of his life. As such, the family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to either the Fallen Firefighters or IAFF, to continue his legacy of helping others who carry a similar passion for duty and service.
