James Windell Shugart passed away unexpectedly in Las Vegas on December 23, 2015 at the age of 77. Jim was born in San Luis Obispo, CA to Julius “Whitey” Shugart and Jacqueline Krause (Rice). The family moved to Las Vegas when Jim was aged 2 months. Jim attended Las Vegas High School where he met and married Joyce Evans. They had 3 children that they loved and raised in Las Vegas. After various occupations, including that of a firefighter, Jim was employed by REECO and spent 33 years working at the Nevada Test Site. He retired as the Manager of Forward Area Rad Safe Operations at the age of 56, which had been a job he greatly enjoyed. In 1998 he met Janet; they married in 2007 and later moved to Mesquite to enjoy retirement. Throughout his life he was an avid trap shooter, loved boating and skiing at Lake Mead, and during retirement became an avid golf enthusiast. He loved reading, and smoking a good cigar while gambling. His passion for life, great sense of humor, and caring spirit will be greatly missed. James is preceded in death by his father and mother, son Phillip, step brother John Shugart, and half-brother Jerry Froyd. He is survived by his wife Janet, his children Stephen (Tina Gitchoff) Shugart, and Marie Shugart , his sister Shirley York, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and step-daughters Jessica (Mark) Zeilman, Kristina (Steven) Nancarrow, and Olivia (Mike Biondo) Boyle, all of whom he loved very much.
