Helen Becknall Brooks, of Las Vegas, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a Christian friend to many, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015. Helen was born June 12, 1934 to John and May (nee Hall) Becknall. Raised in a farming community, 18 miles southwest of Bismarck, N.D., she attended Bismarck High School and, in 1955, graduated from the Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing with a RN degree. Helen married Paul L. Brooks Sept. 6, 1955 and for the last 45 years they have lived in Las Vegas. Helen was employed by the Clark County Health Department and UMC. At an early age, relatives nicknamed her “Tippy,” and that has stuck. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and May Becknall; baby sister, Roletta; and sister, Janice Larson. Helen is survived by her husband of 59 years, Paul L. Brooks; sons, Kevin (Maria) and Michael; daughter, Kristin Rivero; granddaughter, Sarah Brooks; and grandson, Matt Brooks. She also leaves behind her siblings: brother, Harley (Bea) Becknall; sisters, Karen (Norman) Olson, JoAnne Marcks and La Rayne Scott; five nieces; four nephews; and numerous cousins. Visitation will be 5-7 Sunday, Feb. 1, at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 6151 W. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89146. Donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Women’s Fellowship or Gideons International, 4021 Mark Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89108.
