Gladys Luckie

Gladys Luckie was born in Runge, Texas into a family of seven. She first learned to cook as a teenager in her family's catering Business. Gladys left Texas, IN 1935, she met her future husband on the way to California. He was a chef on the Sunset Ltd. Train. She would not give him her phone number on the train, later that Evening, their paths crossed again. They met at her aunt's home where Mr. Luckie was renting a room. They were both pleasantly surprised to meet again. A great friendship developed, and as fate would have it, they married in 1935 and began a family.

After 25 years of marriage, Mr. Luckie died unexpectedly, and Gladys was left to raise her four daughters and nephew. She did so with love and determination. Gladys always had time for family, in addition to working full time.

In Hollywood, Gladys was known as the "Hollywood Chef". She prepared meals and maintained friendships with some of the worlds most famous people, to include Michael & Janet Jackson, Tony Orlando, Johnny Mathis and Mae West.

For 40 years, Gladys was the confidante and home manager/chef for note Las Vegas entertainer, Mr. Liberace. Mr. Liberace often referred to Gladys as his "Second Mother". She was at his side when he performed for the Queen of England.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Marshall Luckie, daughter Linda Luckie and grandson Amadou Luckie.

Survivors include daughters, Zola Luckie, Anita Luckie, Marsha Luckie Hicks, Son-in law, Reginald Hicks. Grandchildren Marshall (Butch) Luckie, Emmanuel Collins, Shawishi Christmas. Great Grandchildren: Bailee & Christopher Christmas, Amaya Luckie, Marlissa and Marlon Collins

Mrs. Luckie leaves behind a host of relatives, family and friends. Her generous spirit and heart of gold will be cherished always.
