Dear Gary,

It was with great sadness for me and the rest of your friends to see go to join our Creator.  Malou is such a lucky woman to have you as a husband  You left a legacy of love and integrity with your family and those who knew you.  You left behind wonderful memories of a loving husband, grandparent and father  I have seen you as a very devoted and loving husband to Malou.  You are spiritually strong and compassionate and also had a good sense of humor.  Even up to your last days you made sure Malou has everything she needs before you go.

In a very short period of time that I have known you I can say you were a great and warm friend!  And I thank God for the opportunity to have met you.

I thank God for your friendship.  You were always there to extend your hand to everyone who needed help.  But most of all, I thank God for sending you to my friend/sister, Malou.  You made a big difference in her life!  Thank you for loving her that much.  I have seen how you have respected her, spoiled her, and gave her the best attention one can ever give!  You have been so selfless and even on your last days, you even thought of putting her to a better home she can call her own!  I love you with the greatest admiration!  I can’t thank you enough! You are by far the coolest guy I have ever met! It will always make me laugh when I think about the time we played darts, you called me "woody" all throughout the game but was gentleman enough to let me win. I will always miss our catching up conversations, our shared love for furbabies, your dry humor and your life lessons. You are one of the very few stable and calming influence in my life. Dearest Uncle Gary, 
 
I remember you in all the little things I do. I miss you every day. 
 
When I was little, you encouraged me to read and pushed me to broaden my imagination. You handed me a Grisham book and told me that all I need is a good story and I will never feel lonely—you’re right! Today, I still turn to novels, short stories, and even fanfiction to explore the world, experience life, and remember that the sun will always shine bright.  

All those hours we spent in the kitchen helped me discover my love for food. You taught me how to butterfly a shrimp and to always have black olives with my chili. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to make you dinner and bake you some brownies. You will always be in my heart whenever I step into the kitchen! 
 
I’m so proud of you that I go around telling people that my Uncle programmed merge on Excel! Every chance I get! Also, who’s gonna play Scrabble with me now?!  
 
I am lucky to have had the time I spent with you. You took us in and loved me and our whole family as your own—thank you so much for having such a big heart! 
 
Thank you for accepting Brian into the family. Thank you for giving me some home improvement lessons (I’m sure that will come in handy)! Thank you for always cracking me up with your dry witty humor. Thank you for listening and talking to me about life. Thank you for pushing me to do better and be better.

Dear Gary,

We are so fortunate to have had you in our lives.

Being married to two incredible sisters made us brothers by marriage, but your friendship, care and love made us brothers for eternity.

We would have been great friends anyway, because you were already friends with everyone you met. You were such a loving and generous father to your children and grandchildren. The way you accepted us into your family with open arms is something we will always be thankful for. 

There was nothing that we would not do for each other, but there is so much more that we never got the chance to do. From home improvement projects to digging through trash bags for missing keys, we were always there for each other. Without question… without complaint.

You will always be the big brother we never had, Gary. Our respect and love for you will never die. 

Even now, we still try to be more like you, as any little brother who misses our big brother would. But we’ve got a long way to go and it’s not so easy without you here.  So, we will keep trying… in memory of you.

There’s not a day that goes by without Kaye, Mary and me missing you and everything about you … your smile, your wisdom, your love of games and family competitions. And holidays will never be the same without your delicious grilled steaks. You will be missed but you will always be remembered.

Gary’s quiet presence spoke loud to those that listened carefully. If you quiet your mind now you will hear his chuckles, see his gentle smile, and the perpetual sparkle in his eyes. Dear Gary,

One of the saddest moments is when you hear of the loss of a friend. I was deeply saddened to hear of your passing.  Your passing was a terrible tragedy for all of us who knew you. You were a great guy and I know our lives will never be the same without you. You became a good friend to me during our time as board members with Water and Power Community Credit Union. We enjoyed many good times together. As the years passed you became a mentor to me. I could always rely on you whenever I needed help, whether with a project or some mundane chore, you were always willing to help me. I came to trust your judgment and wisdom as well as your advice. You had intelligence, wit, charm, and a caring heart that made you a great friend. I admire all those wonderful qualities that made you that special person that you were.
I will always be thankful that I had the opportunity to know you. I will cherish your memory for years to come. Friendship does not end at death. It is eternal.

Who knew our special time together with the credit union would be so short?  Don thought the world of you and the knowledge you brought to the board.  Aside from the fun times we enjoyed in Hawaii, Mexico, Jamaica, the desert, and other special venues, we both admired your ability with computers and interest in the technology of cameras.  I still cannot take a picture with my cell phone without thinking of you and your prediction that one day soon the cell phone camera technology would equal that of fine photographic equipment.  You were right on.  It makes me happy too that you found happiness with Maria and your faith in God.  Rest easy my friend.

In my role as the Vice President of Lending, I have had the pleasure of knowing Gary for the last 25 years.  Most of that time was on a professional basis while he was a volunteer for the Water and Power Community Credit Union.  Gary was a dedicated volunteer and held many key positions including Board Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary during his 20 year tenure.  During this time, I also got the opportunity to know Gary and Maria on a personal basis.   Through my personal relationship with Gary, I had the opportunity to see how kind, caring, and generous he was.  My fondest memories of Gary center on his ability to help people in need.  He would frequently call me regarding friends, acquaintances, and co-workers that were in financial difficulty to see if I can help or guide them out of their hardship.  He would always end the conversation with “see what you could do”.  God Bless.

My Uncle Gary was my Mom’s youngest brother. There were four of them, two boys and two girls. My Mom has a lot of loving stories about her little brother that I have heard as I grew up. When I remember my Uncle Gary I think of some fun summers with my Aunt and Uncle plus my cousins. Sometimes we would all be together. Great Grandma, Great Grandpa, Grandma and Grandpa and all the cousins. I remember him cooking dinner after swimming all day in his pool. Or we would go out to eat at his restaurant! He also had slot machines at his house. I could play them for hours. Sometimes he would let me keep some of the money. I felt so lucky. I was the youngest of the cousins at the time. So I always had fun visiting. Then when we moved closer he would come have dinners with us as a family. He always had a fancy car. He would take me for a drive around the block in it. We all love and miss you Uncle Gary!

You were a giant among men in spirit, with an ability to make everyone smile and chuckle during the best of times, and especially during the worst of times. There are two emotions you expressed towards me that I will cherish forever as loving memories; one being love and the other being pride. Thank you for being a kind, patient and loving grandfather. When I came to visit you my favorite parts of my trip were spending time with you at breakfast, watching movies together and challenging each other to a game of air hockey.
