Ernest B. Williams died Wednesday April 12, 2023, in his home in Las Vegas, NV of natural causes. Ernie was a loving father, husband and grandfather as well as a legendary storyteller. Born just south of Naponee, Nebraska, Ernest graduated second in his high school class in 1949 and later helped to set most of the survey points on the Harlan County dam in Nebraska. Ernest was a United States Air Force Veteran enlisting in 1951. His Air Force training in assembly and disassembly of nuclear weapons and his Top-Secret clearance served him well as a civilian. He took a job at the Atomic Energy Commission seven days after his honorable discharge from the military in 1955. With the AEC Ernie witnessed and participated in 83 atmospheric tests and went on to retire as a GS-13 in 1986. He continued on as a Public Relations Representative for the organization, giving tours of the test site from 1987 until 2020. In 1998 Ernie began volunteering with the Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation which would eventually build the Atomic Testing Museum. Ernest is survived by his wife, Kathi Williams, his four children Teresa, Ernestine, Suzanne and Warren, his stepson Shon as well as his four granddaughters. Services will be held Sunday, April 23, 2023, at the Palm Mortuary on Jones and the 215. In lieu of flowers please send your donations to the Atomic Testing Museum (https://www.atomicmuseum.vegas/).
