Dorothy Judd Edwards passed away, September 2, 2023, at the age of 101 years old. She was born on September 13, 1921, on the family farm in Magnolia, Illinois. Her parents were Ray Judd and Inez Lundy Judd.
At three years old she traveled with her family by train to Southern California. She began her life in Los Angeles. Dorothy attended Fremont High School where she was an outstanding student. She also excelled in tennis a sport she loved for the rest of her life.
At nineteen, she married her beloved mixed doubles partner, Richard Edwards. A partnership that would last 50 years. They became the proud parents of son Gary in 1943 and daughter Laurel in 1946. After being a stay at home mom for several years, she returned to the work force. Dorothy was a secretary at ITT Cannon for several years. Later she was a legal secretary to patent attorneys in Pasadena, California. Her last ten years of employment was a senior secretary at the Pasadena Unified School district as a senior secretary.
Her life partner, Richard, passed away from a sudden stroke at the age of 73. Dorothy never remarried and missed Richard the rest of her life.
After a few years of being alone in Los Angeles, she decided to relocate in Las Vegas, Nevada to be near her daughter Laurel Riggi and her growing family.
Dorothy or Grandma Dottie, as she is known to most friends and family is survived by, her son Gary Edwards, his daughter Elizabeth Turi(Michael) and great grandchild, Gabriel.
Her daughter, Laurel Riggi(Phillip) and grandchildren, Gina Riggi of Reno, NV, Dean Riggi of Carson City, NV and Kristina Riggi of Las Vegas, NV. She cherished the years spent with her great grandchildren, Nikolaus(Cassidy), Hannah, Luke, Jake Richard and John Riggi, Dean Riggi's children, also Kristina's son Anthony was very close to her heart.
She was also, great great grandmother to Amara Jennifer Riggi, Nikolaus and Cassidy's one year old baby girl.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm Monday, October 2, 2023 at Palm South Jones Mortuary, 1600 South Jones Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89146
