It’s been over 6 years and I still can’t believe you are gone. So many memories. Saudi, traveling to Africa. All the good times in Al Baha, Jeddah, Dhaharan. I so regret how we didn’t see each other much those last years.  Miss you Donna. 

I loved Donna. I moved to San Diego with Donna and have some incredible memories of her. She was so Kind and very protective of me. She loved her Family. I loved when she talked about her nieces and nephews. I know she is greatly missed and resting in peace.

I just heard today that Donna passed, and I am so very grieved and sorry. I think of her so often, she was my best friend growing up, all through St Francis and Andrean. When I remember my childhood, it is all tied up with wonderful memories of her. I am so sorry we lost touch over the years but so happy to see from the video tribute that she was so very close with her family. I send you my love and prayers now, she is in my heart.

I grew up with Donna in Portage. I loved her too. She was the kindest person I think I had ever known. I am in San Diego with Tammy Krupchak who just had some surgery and we were talking about Donna and wondering who was still in touch with her. So I googled her name and I just saw that she had passed. I am so sad. I wanted to reach out and call her. Now I will just close my eyes and say a prayer that she is in heaven with my dad and happy. Donna and I both grew up in Northern Indiana, but did not know each other until we met as VA nurse executives.   Some people go through their whole lives without experiencing the amount of laughter Donna would experience and share with others in a single hour.  When I think of her, I cannot help but smile....thanks Donna.

Every day and night I thought about my Donna. Her life was short but well spent doing what she liked doing best; which is caring for people of all Greed. I can't stop thinking about Donna;she was the kindest, funniest,most generous person I've ever known.  Denise, Donna and I had many laughs at IU. One of the funniest stories I remember was when Donns was driving home from Bloomington in the late afternoon, felt drowsy, so she pulled into a Dairy Queen parking lot to get a little sleep. She woke up the next morning. We laughed about this forever.  Love and miss you, Donna

Donna was a wonderful colleague who was committed to providing excellent care to our Veterans and transforming the practice of nursing.

Donna was my aunt and in my eyes perfect with her giving heart and soul. She was such a blessing to have grown up with to watch as example. I love her so much and she will forever live in my heart.

Donna was well respected and highly regarded amongst the nurses at the VA.  She not only was an effective leader, she also had a very kind heart.  She will be greatly missed.

I was very blessed to have had Donna in my life for eleven years. I met Donna when I transferred to Mather VA from Texas and before long she became my best friend. Donna and Jim and my husband, Mario and I shared many meals, movies, birthdays, anniversary celebrations and conversations. Boy could Donna cook a good soup and make a salad out of whatever was in the fridge! Donna's smile would light up the room when anyone walked in. I miss Donna very much but I know that God needed another Angel in Heaven and so He called Donna but she will forever be in my heart.

Donna  we will miss you so much. Thanks for  your  support, for listening and unerstanding . may you have eternal rest and peace with our Lord.

Donna, Kind, supportive and always considered with others needs. She will be missed.

Donna, will be missed with her wonderful smile, her ability to encourage others even in adversity.  She loved her family, friends and veterans.   Her constant desire to ensure that services were better for veterans and staff is a hallmark of her service.   She often gave me encouragement and encouraged me to stretch.  I will miss hearing her voice and the long conversation about the present, past and the future.  Jim I am sure she is worried about you and want you to continue getting the best care.   I hope you remember the love you shared.  Peace Donna.

Kind. Loving. Giving. Generous. Caring.  Selfless. STRONG.  These are the words that immediately come to mind when I think of Donna.  My heart breaks for the family as I know how central Donna was to all of them.  Many fond memories and deep appreciation for this wonderful woman.  Love and warmth to all!

Donna was the maid of honor at my wedding in 1981 when we lived in San Diego. My husband Pat and I choose our wedding date on Donna's birthday . Even though we have lived miles away we always remember our dear friend on August 8th. Donna was a special friend, an excellent nurse and we will never forget her!  Denise Charbonneau Kochanek

I met Donna in Washington DC at the orientation for new VA Nurse Executives. At each meeting we attended after that Donna would get a group to go swimming in the evening. The pool and hot tub were filled with nurses, physicians and administrators of all shapes and sizes, laughing, splashing and sneaking in a forbidden cannon ball. She helped all of us establish a wonderful network of colleagues across the country.  Wherever we were we had a grand time. Donna's Mother Sally would join us when it worked with her schedule and the shopping and conversations on stock market and income strategies have never been better. Donna loved Jim and her family more than anything. I was blessed to have Donna as a friend and will miss her everyday. My heart hurts.

Love seeing all the pictures.  Donna loved her family and we all knew it!  She was a beautiful person and she cared deeply for those she loved and her nurses. My first memories of Donna are not from meeting her.  In fact I think I only met her in person a very few times.  My first memories are from her nephew, Sam.  I have known Sam for a long time, he is a best friend of my son's.  Whenever Sam would come over, I always heard about his Aunt Donna.  He would tell me how excited he was to visit her, he would come over and tell me he got some cool new thing for his birthday, Christmas, or no reason at all... and I would say, 'cool, who got you that?'  And it was always...Aunt Donna.  Sam made me want an Aunt Donna for my kids!  After I got to know Natalie better, she also talked about Aunt Donna frequently.  She was always so happy to visit her.  I know both Sam and Natalie, appreciated her love, and attention.  I could only hope to be the kind of Aunt that Donna was.
