Donald Wayne Land, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, at the age of 85. A longtime resident of Henderson, Nevada, Don’s warmth, intelligence, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Don was the devoted husband of Marion Land (Yeaman) for 60 wonderful years and a loving father to Donald Cornett Land and the late George Yeaman Land. He was a proud and caring grandfather to Berkley, Courtney, Donnie, Sidney, Victoria, and Natalie, who brought him immense joy and pride. He was a cherished brother to Charlene Egbert and James E. Land and was preceded in death by his brothers Eugene Land and Michael Land.
A graduate of Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO, Don served honorably in the United States Marine Corps before earning his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Missouri S&T after attending Cornell University.
Throughout his career, Don made a lasting impact in the field of mechanical engineering. He served as Director of Facilities Engineering at UNLV and previously owned Consulting Engineers & Associates in Las Vegas, where his firm designed mechanical systems for commercial and educational buildings.
Don was passionate about politics and proudly supported the Democratic Party. He enjoyed spirited discussions and meaningful connections with friends from Drinking Liberally. He had a special fondness for his classic ’66 T-Bird and his 2007 Navigator and was an avid golfer who often claimed the lowest score on the course.
Above all, Don will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and the joy he found in their accomplishments. He is survived by his son Donald of St. Louis, daughter-in-law Lisa Land (Atchley) of Bend, OR, his six beloved grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, especially Judith Perry, Kate Walthall, and Anne Walthall. His memory will forever be cherished by his extended family and countless friends.
A celebration of Don's life will be held at Black Mountain Grill in Henderson, NV, on December 11, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. The family invites all who knew and loved Don to share a story or raise a toast in his honor.
