In the song of life, Devon Michael Helton was surely the composer. A very observant man who would rather spend his time creating than talking, Devon preferred to live in a world of harmony where everything around him made sense. In fact, he depended on his sensory world to provide him with concrete data. A free spirit, Devon believed that actions spoke for themselves. He seemed to know what fit and what didn't fit in everything he did. Devon perceived that all of life's possibilities were open to him, yet he lived with a definite sense of purpose. He was a man who was always ready to share his creations with those around him.
Devon was born on December 12, 1997, at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. His parents were Jeramey Helton and Michelle Helton-Cahall. Devon was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a young child, Devon was optimistic in his outlook. He sought out the possibilities in a given situation and looked for ways to apply his creative energies. Devon rarely called attention to himself, but when he did speak out, his message was clearly understood by those around him.
Early on in his family relationships, Devon showed that he was a tolerant and flexible person, and he got along reasonably well with everyone. He was raised with two siblings. He had two younger brothers, Everet and Garrett. He was a calm, adventurous, and playful child who was adaptable to any situation.
Devon developed into a person who enjoyed physically doing things as he was growing up, and he took pleasure in using his hands to create. Devon liked making things, whether it was drawing pictures, working with building kits, or even just tapping out a rhythm to play by. In his spare time, he liked to skateboard and spend time with his friends. However, to Devon, the most fun he had was simply playing and spending time with friends.
Early on in his school years, Devon showed an interest in learning, especially when it came to subjects in the arts and mechanics; he was a fixer in the truest sense of the word. At times, school learning did not provide Devon with sufficient challenges. His passion for cars and arts was so keen that fellow students and even his teachers recognized it. He graduated from Legacy High School in 2016. His favorite classes in high school were Woodshop, where he crafted two beautiful cutting boards, and Auto Tech. The teacher he enjoyed learning from the most was Mrs. Anderson.
Devon showed that he was able to focus on what was necessary. His ability to assemble highly creative projects became second nature to him. Devon began fixing and building bicycles and skateboards as a child, eventually graduating to doing the same for kids in the neighborhood. Devon’s love for mechanics led to his matriculation to the Advanced Training Institute (ATI) in 2020. He was working on his Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification and would have graduated in Spring 2021 with the ultimate goal of owning his own automotive business with his brother, Everet.
Those who didn't know Devon well might not view him as being an outgoing person, those who called him their friend knew differently. Devon was shy and sensitive, a person who never forced his opinions and values on others. Close friends knew that his kindness was unmatched, and once you became a friend of Devon's, you understood how true a friend he could be. Devon was generous with his friendship and extended kindness to those close to him. While growing up, some of his best friends were the twins: Thomas and Daniel Turner, Wyatt, Josh, Scott, and Renaye (the Saole boys). Joe Driscoll, Dylan Lesher, Hayden Lund, and many more. Later in life, he became friends with Tyreke Isadore, Jaymeez (Juan) Cloyd, Derek Jones, Ronnie Schmitz, Matt Shea, KK (the Kayumba boys), Anthony Heard, Alex Lugo, James Mesa Hernandez, Brendan Shafter, Trevor O'Brien, Daniel Diaz and many more.
Devon was blessed with one daughter, Anassa Danielle Lea Helton. Devon was exceptionally sympathetic and compassionate when it came to her and treasured every moment with her. These emotional bonds made him as much a playmate as a parent. He gave her unconditional love and kindness, sharing his artistic nature by turning everyday events into creative play. Some of Devon’s biggest smiles and laughs were shared with Anassa.
Devon found ways to enjoy what he did for a living. He worked hard and did his best to succeed every day. He was employed for 3G staging and GLP where his primary occupation was as a stagehand. Devon tended to be a team player, doing what was necessary to get the job done without imposing his will on others.
Devon enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were cars, tattoos, and outdoor activities. He liked to drive fast, race, and fix cars. He was rebuilding a 1979 El Camino with his brother, Everet. Devon expressed his artistic and creative interests in his choice of tattoos. Devon was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. He was relaxed in his approach to his leisure time because he wanted to savor the present moment.
Devon liked some sports and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he got the opportunity. Tops on his list were UFC/MMA and skateboarding videos. Devon was also a bit of a daredevil, and you could also catch him cliff diving or body surfing at the beach.
Because he loved the world around him, Devon enjoyed traveling and going away on vacation. It was an opportunity for him to kick back and relax, visit new places, and experience new things. Devon put his trademark on any leisure planning that he undertook. Favorite vacations included Seaside, Oregon, and San Diego, California, with his mom, brothers, and grandparents.
Devon’s sensitivity also extended to his love of animals and his cherished pets. Devon’s love for animals dated as far back as a child when he adored playing with Vienna, his aptly named Dachshund. Two of Devon's favorites were Lucy and Loki, his Pitbulls. He had Lucy for 1.5 years and Loki for 6 years. Loki remained with his mom when he moved out. His family was rounded out by his three cats, Bela, Misfit, Sylvester, and his new boa, Kabibi.
Devon passed away on October 24, 2020, at Henderson, Nevada.
