Denis was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and attended school in Mooresville. He attended Indiana University and obtained his PhD from Indiana State University in 2006. Denis spent many years as a high school and college basketball and football official.
Although Denis recently joined the Las Vegas Area Boy Scout Council, he had already begun as Executive VP of Program, helping guide the development of programs for the youth. He also worked tirelessly for the NCAP (National Camp Accreditation Program) for many years.
A short synopsis of Denis’ Scout accomplishments: Miami District Committee, Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 250, Group 2290, Council Executive Board, Council Executive Board, and Council Advisory Board Hoosier Trails Council; Council Executive Board Buffalo Trace Council; Council Executive Board and Council Advisory Board Crossroads of America Council.
Denis earned his Eagle Scout in 1969 and was Order of the Arrow Lodge Chief in 1970 and 1971. As an adult, Denis has held many, many council, area, regional, and national positions from Asst. Scoutmaster to NCAP Authorization Chair. He volunteered work at National Scout Jamborees and numerous Scout camps.

Arrow of Light 1963, Den Chief Award 1965, Scouter’s Key 1978, Scouter’s Training Award 1976, District Award of Merit 1986,
Silver Beaver Award 1993, Silver Antelope Award 1996, James E. West Fellow, Heritage Society, Fleur-de-Lis Member,
Commander’s Medal for Civic Service 2008 presented by the U. S. Department of the Army, NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award Hoosier Trails Council 2015.
He was the fourth son of Raymond Eugene and Mary Anna Ward, who both precede him in death. He is also preceded in death by brothers Raymond Darrell Ward and Roy Arnold Ward.
A private celebration of life is planned for a later date in Las Vegas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Denis Ward Endowment Fund, Las Vegas Area Scout Council, 7220 S. Paradise Road, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
