Cynthia Eade "Cindy" Nolen, 52, of Las Vegas passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at home with her beloved "boys," Moose and Charlie by her side. Born June 27, 1958 in Olean, N.Y., she attended school in Alleghany and Saratoga Springs before earning her associates degree at Albany Business College. Cindy moved to Las Vegas in 1977 and was employed by Clark County Community College before going to work for the City of Las Vegas in 1980, retiring as the assistant to the City manager. She was also the human resources manager for Nevada Title and volunteered on many political campaigns. Proud to be a "conservative Democrat," her intelligence and balanced perspectives created admiration and respect from those lucky enough to know her. It was at City Hall that Cindy met the love of her life and future husband, Councilman Robert "Bob" Nolen. The two traveled, embraced life and spent time with family and many wonderful friends. Along the way they raised grandson, Kyle. Cindy was diagnosed with scleroderma in 1999, a disease that forever changed her life but not her will to live. Having battled her way back from death on more than one occasion, family and friends credited the "Cindy factor" with the miracle of her many recoveries. Always a leader, Cindy received the Volunteer of the Year award in 2005 after playing a leading role in the Scleroderma Foundation's Advocacy Efforts in Washington, D.C., serving on the Foundation's National Board of Directors, as the president of the Southern Nevada chapter, and volunteering to be the "face of scleroderma" on the cover of the Foundation's literature. A three-year hiatus in Green Bay, Wis., brought her even closer to her third love (behind her husband and cats), the Green Bay Packers. A loving daughter, sister, grandmother and aunt, she was preceded in death by husband, Bob; and mother, Janice Mae. She is survived by her father, Robert Eade (Carolyn) of Allegheny, N.Y.; stepfather, Tom Griffith (Dee) of Las Vegas; sisters, Nancy VanVreede (Allan) of Green Bay, Barbara Robertson (Bruce) of Green Bay, Elaine Kelley (David Gay) of Las Vegas, and Alicia Jankowski (Gene) of Alleghany. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins. Viewing will be from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 2, with memorial services following, both at Palm Mortuary-Summerlin, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Graveside service and internment will follow at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1500 Las Vegas Blvd. N. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Cindy's name to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Ste. 105, Danvers, MA 01923, or the Arthritis Foundation .
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
