Carrie Anderlee Harris Smith was born August 25, 1939 to the late Erise and Gladys Harris in Houma, Louisiana. Carrie graduated from Southdown High School in Houma and attended Southern University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
At a very young age, Carrie was baptized at New Rising Sun Baptist Church in Houma and currently a member of Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Carrie was the first African American hired for South Central Bell Telephone Company in Houma. After many years there, she transferred to Pacific Bell Telephone Company in Los Angeles, California where she retired in 1995 after 30 years of service. While at Pacific Bell, she became the party planner for retirement parties, cook-outs and get togethers.
Carrie was married to Elbert Brown Sr. in 1959 in Houma and to that union was born Dwayne Keith, Byron Lydell (Jacquelyn), Felicia Marie (John), and Elbert T. (Jennifer). They later divorced and Carrie married Alexander Smith in Los Angeles, California and together they had one son, Anthony Jerome. Carrie was a loving, devoted and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and sister who always put family first. Carrie leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, her sisters; Gloria, Ezelia (George), Maxine, Velma (Lionel), Bernita (Darryl); her brother, George (Debra); and twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Smith; her parents, Erise and Gladys Harris, her sisters, Josephine King and Lucinda Ewers; her brothers, Joseph Harris, Daniel Harris, Erise Harris Jr. And her step-son, Derek Smith.
Carrie had the ability to touch people she met and many became lifelong friends. Her family and friends will miss her laughter and her very sharp never ending sense of humor, as well as her beautiful personality and generosity.
