Bill Jackson

Bill Jackson was born July 15, 1933, in Pioneer, Louisiana, to Merrill Jackson and Lubertha Grimes-Toston. Bill confessed Christ in August of 1946, at the ripe age of 13, under the leadership of Rev. Lem Carr, at Mount Zion Baptist church, in Pioneer, Louisiana. Bill married his high school sweetheart, the lovely Mary Alice Thompson, in 1954. He decided to relocate to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1955, in pursuit of a better life for his family.

After moving to Las Vegas, Bill worked 2 jobs for many years to provide for his family. He later went back to school to obtain his High School diploma, which enabled him to advance in his career with the City of Las Vegas. After 32 years of employment, Bill retired from the City of Las Vegas as a Sanitation Engineer Foreman.

In 1970, Bill rededicated his life to the Lord under the leadership of the late Rev. J.L. Kemp, of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a pillar in the ministry as head Deacon and financier for over 30 years. In 2002, Bill united with Harvest of Faith Ministry, under the leadership of his son-in-law, Pastor Lloyd Hall. Bill was a great support in the establishment and building of this ministry. There, he served faithfully as the head Deacon and treasurer for over 20 years.

Bill was a quiet man that spoke with a constant voice of reason, causing him to be sought out by young and old for his wisdom and knowledge down through the years. Bill was a great family man that was involved in his children’s lives from academics to sports as an assistant coach, ensuring they were well rounded and maintained good grades and behavior in school, outside activities, and in the church.

As leisure activities, Bill was an avid bowler, earning many trophies and prizes from various competitions. He loved watching old Westerns, MSNBC, and his Lakers dominate on the court. He also enjoyed his early morning walks at Doolittle Community Center and maintaining his lawn.

At the age of 82, Bill was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Cancer. The statistical prognosis was fatal, especially for the elderly. However, Bills' faith proclaimed, “It’s good! If I live, it's good. If I don’t, it's still good; I know where I'm going.” The Lord delivered him from that cancer to be a living testimony of God’s healing power, until his transition.

Bill was called home to glory at noon on May 20, 2024. He is preceded in death by parents Merrill Jackson and Lubertha Grimes-Toston; brothers John and Robert Jackson, sister Lesby Jackson-Coleman; son Bruce Allen Jackson, Sr.; and Granddaughter Elease Goodlow-Triplett. He leaves to cherish his legacy, a loving wife for over 69 years, Mary Jackson; children Ivory Jean Goodlow (Jerome Goodlow), Virginia Jackson- Oliver, Michael Jackson (Inez Jackson), Debbie Hall (Lloyd Hall), Randy Jackson (Natalie Jackson), daughter-in-law Lynn Jackson, and son-in-law Walter Oliver; all of Las Vegas, Nevada; 19 grandchildren; 29.5 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Bill led an exemplary life worthy of imitation. Despite challenges life may have brought, his faith in God and the love for his family remained tried and true, even until the end. His last words at home to his family were, “I'm going home. Make sure you all get to safety.”

A visitation for Bill will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Harvest of Faith Ministry, 1849 N Lamb Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89115. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:00 AM also at Harvest of Faith 1849 N Lamb Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89115. A committal service will occur Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Palm Eastern Cemetery, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
