Dear Maureen and family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of one of the kindest men I knew. Barry was a fantastic person.  He was one of the greatest for sure. May he rest in peace, and may his family always know that he was a blessing to everyone that knew him. He was kind, he was intelligent , he was witty, he was funny,, he was loyal, and he was most definitely a gift to us all.

I remember the first time I met Barry. I was reporting to USS Henry L. Stimson SSBN 655 Gold as an MS2 (SU) just after SUB School. The ship had just returned from being out for 3 days before deploying for patrol. One of our shipmates escorted me down to the messdecks to meet my LCPO which was Barry. The shipmate told Barry who I was and Barry says to me as I was standing there in my dress blues,"Welcome aboard shipmate! Now start taking trash to the pier!"  When I think about that now I just laugh! Barry had taught me so much about running the division and eventually I did become his onboard relief. I would always wish that he and I would meet up again either working together again or just hanging out fishing like we use to do in South Carolina on the Cooper River in his boat. I also enjoyed riding to and from Kings Bay in his truck saving me from having to be on the crews bus! We had lots of great talks on them rides! I always looked forward to the off crews when Barry would have all of our guys over to his house to work on loadouts and menus for the next patrol. It was also so nice that Maureen and the kids were ok with that. What a great family!  I missed Barry and the family very much after he left the boat and now that he is gone from us, I feel very sad because of the things I wanted to say to him but didn't and to thank him for all that he did for me. Now, I feel very blessed to have had the very little time I did with my boss, mentor, brother, and friend. Thank you Barry, Maureen, and Kids for having us in your lives...I love you all.

My earliest memory of Uncle Barry was when we still lived in New York.  He was so proud of his motorcycle and let me sit on it. I just came across the picture, although dark, it shows me on the bike. 

I am deeply saddened to hear about Barry's passing. I meet Barry through Maureen. I used to go to  Maureen's house to cut her hair. I always enjoyed talking to Barry. He always had something educational to share. Sometimes I would bring my son with me and Barry would always entertain him by either showing him something on the computer or something he was working on in the garage. Barry will be truly missed. My deepest sympathy to Maureen and the entire family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

We had the great fortune of becoming friends and neighbors with Barry and Maureen five years ago when they moved to Las Vegas. Like others in our neighborhood, we find ourselves continuing to watch for Barry riding his scooter to the mailbox, or taking his granddaughter for a ride.

I recall a day when Barry and I were discussing the new school being built behind his house, and whether or not it would be good for the community. Barry's first reaction was to think about how great it would be to hear the children playing during recess.

Another time we were passing by their house and saw Barry & Maureen attempting to move a large case. They had just picked it up and were going to get it into the house on their own. We came over to help and found that is was almost too heavy for us to handle, much less Barry & Maureen doing it on their own. Barry was determined not to let anything get in the way of finishing a project, and he usually succeeded.

We'll continue to look for Barry as we pass by their house, as it's a habit that's hard to break, and it will be a reminder of the great conversations and laughter we were able to share with Barry. We feel very lucky to have known him.

We are heartbroken to hear of Barry's passing.  Barry was a great neighbor!  He was so generous with his kindness and knowledge.  He and Maureen had such a warm home environment that they loved to share with all.  We always felt like family around Barry and Maureen. I remember a family trip as a child to visit Aunt Maureen and Uncle Barry. I have always remembered how Uncle Barry made the best animal shaped pancakes and how special I thought it was that he made them for us.

We were blessed to spend the last 5 years living next to Barry and Maureen.  I cannot begin to express the void that is being left in our neighborhood.  Barry was  the Mayor of Sutter, and he will be truly missed.  I will miss the conversations we shared every season when it was time for Halloween and Christmas decorations to go up. When I have a question,  I will miss the endless home care knowledge that Barry was always so generous with. Jaxson and Maxwell will miss the free rides that Barry offered up on his scooter. Every time we have meat on the smoker, I will look over the wall thinking about the kindness that Barry and Maureen have shown our family. There are no words that can bring you comfort, but please know that we have been honored to share this time with you, and Barry will be missed tremendously.

Maureen, we were next-door neighbors on Beckstrom. My condolences on Barry's passing. I still remember the day I moved to the neighborhood; you and Barry knocked on my door and welcomed me to the neighborhood with cookies. I could not have asked for better neighbors. You were missed by everyone when you moved away.

I remember him as MS1 Steff on USS HENRY L STIMSON.  He was a great aid to me when I was a young Ensign/JG.  He was filling a Chief's billet at the time and I am glad to see he became a Senior Chief.  His family and friends should be very proud of his service.

So sorry to hear of Barry's passing. We served together on the Stimson. He was a great cook and lots of fun to be around. As COB, I could always count on Barry to help with any special projects and events; especially the "Dolphin Dinners."

To my cousin Barry, I really enjoyed seeing you again just a few months ago as my wife and I traveled through Las Vegas. I suppose that it was God's Will that we came to Vegas to see you. I am so glad I had the opportunity to see you again. Maureen, my wife and I extend our deepest condolences and love for you and the family. We both are so glad that God put us in your presence, if for just a brief time, to allow us to spend such quality time together before Barry's passing. To the family, we extend our deepest condolences to you as well. We love you all and just know that we are deeply saddened by this loss. To my Brother in Arms, Senior Chief Steff, your mission is complete, good and faithful servant. Job well done!

Working with Barry is one of my fondest memories that I have of working in Seminole County. He was more than a co-worker he was a friend. We are so sorry to hear of his passing, but rejoice that we had the opportunity to know him.

To Uncle Barry ,   How awesome it is to have an uncle like you!   I can't describe it any other way !  I will always cherish the family visits to Charleston to visit you and Aunt Maureen .. We love you and miss you. I know that you will be watching over your wife , sons, and especially your grandchildren !  Fly high with my dad!

Barry and his family were great neighbors of ours in Florida. I always remember him listening to the radio and singing along whenever he was doing work in the garage.. His sense of humor was awesome, and I'll always remember him as a wonderful friend, neighbor, and fellow Veteran..

Barry and Maureen were the best neighbors we had in Las Vegas! Barry was always cheerful and friendly and I can still hear his radio playing the golden oldies as he worked tirelessly in his shop. Your memories will come to be warm comfort and the loving family you created will sustain you always. Love and best wishes, Maureen.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your loved one.  When someone we love falls asleep in death the memories we have of them become our treasure, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends and may those cherished memories of a life well lived and God's promise at John 6:40 ease the pain of your grief during this difficult time.

Barry was my neighbor in Oveido, FL. He and his family were the first people to greet us when we moved from Wisconsin to Florida. He loaned his lawn mower to me before our shipment of household goods arrived and took my son and me picking citrus fruits at an orchard owned by a friend of his.   A great neighbor, friend, and fellow veteran.
