Barbara Jean Benson was born January 24, 1944 in Tiptonville, Tennessee to Margie Ree Allen. Barbara has been the loving matriarch of the family, living each day with integrity, selflessness and faith in God. Barbara accepted Christ and lived her everyday life through him until she was chosen to be called home March 10, 2016.
Barbara, a mother to six children, is preceded in death by two of her daughters, Clara Marie Veal and Bridget Rena Scates; and one of her sons, Steven Veal; along with one brother, Ricky Allen.
Barbara had a long career at Southern California Edison prior to her retirement. Not one to be idle, Barbara continued to work, caring for children, as well as donating her time to her church until her passing.
Barbara was devoted to her family, friends, and anyone in need. She leaves behind to cherish her memories two sons: Kenneth (Nikki) Veal and Samuel (Amber) Veal; one daughter, Tonya (Harry) Veal; seven sisters: Linda (Fred) Scott, Judy (Roy) Wade, Clarice (Ronald) Jackson, Valerree Allen, Phyllis Allen, Wanda (Charles) Richardson and Michelle Allen; seven brothers: James (Lawanda) Scates, Kenneth Allen, Darrell Allen, Joe Willie Scates, Jerry (Deborah) Scates, Dennis Allen and Ivan Allen; eight grandchildren: Bobby English, Robbie English, Jarren Curtis, Steven Lockett, Lakisha Erves, Kenneth Veal JR, Jewel Veal and Kelly Veal; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She had a special love for Cruz and Ella Herrera, and Teo Wilson, three siblings she helped raise.
Barbara loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was full of life and her spirit always remained high.
