Arnie Landau was an amazing person, teacher and colleague.  I’ll always remember his funny jokes and good talks in the teacher’s lounge at Franko Middle School.   Arnie always had a  smile for everyone.   Rest in  Peace Arnie.  

My husband and I have known Arnie for several years from Police Memorial dog park.  Arnie loved to talk to my husband Richard about his life.  One of the sweetest stories was about how he met his wife in college.  She was the only woman and he immediately fell for her.  He was so proud that she chose him out of all the other men.   He always hurried home when she called him at park.

Arnie was a kind and gentle soul and all his friends at the park will greatly miss him.  All prayers and love to his family.  He greatly loved his wife, kids and grandchildren.  He loved to talk about how proud he was of them all

To Ellen and family. Arnie was a great guy and I enjoyed our time at Mount Vernon high school. We had the chance to meet up in Las Vegas. May he rest in peace.

He was like a brother to me and I believe he felt the same way. We grew up very close to each other, did things together and shared our lives and experiences. Without Arnie it is as if part of me is missing. We always enjoyed talking to him on the phone and Carol especially liked the funny emails he sent. Arnie was warm, sincere and genuine.        He was a very special person!

Dear Ellen and Family : I was deeply saddened to hear today of Arnie's passing he's has been a great friend and inspiration to me since I was hired in Mount Vernon in 1984 as a math teacher. I have tried to keep in touch with him over the years even after you both moved to Las Vegas. You were both always warm and sincere and went out of your way to make us feel welcome in your home in Rockland and Las Vegas. My friendship with Arnie for 50 years has been an extraordinary gift. Our exploits together are all incredibly unforgettable  and most made us laugh endlessly. They all remain in my mind and I treasure them. Here’s a great Arnie story. Arnie loved cars and paid much too much attention to them and how they function or malfunction. He loved checking his gas mileage often. As a math teacher, he computed this with perfection and delighted in seeing his gas mileage go up. After sharing his accomplishment with me on several occasions, I decided to play with him a bit. Without his knowing, I added a little extra gas to his tank one week and he got excited when he saw his gas mileage increase. So, I added even more the next week and he got really excited. We had a great laugh about it when I told him what I had done. His sense of humor allowed him to take life in stride and to always cheer others up. If you think that Arnie was fanatic about his cars, you need to know how fanatic he was about his TV sets.  If he received poor reception on any channel, he would call the cable company to complain. I used to tell everyone that my friend Arnie doesn’t watch tv. He watches reception. I’ve literally seen him turn on the set, check reception on every channel, and shut it off without watching a single program. I love my friend and will miss him terribly. However, all that we’ve experienced together will always be locked inside me. 

You could always look to Arnie to  cheer your day with a funny story, joke or picture. Sorry to see you’ve left us so soon. We love you.
