One of the things I remember about Andy was his infectious laugh. It covered his face and went up to his ears! He was such a steady person always there, always trying to help others, and he always contacted me every time he came in to Las Vegas. One of the kind guy, he will always be missed!!

An Andy memory that comes to mind was a fire that we fought together on Christmas night 1992, I believe - give or take a minute. It was colder than a "well digger's ass" someone said or was that a "brass monkey's... tail".  Not Polar Vortex cold but plenty miserable enough for the two of us and the several crews dispatched to that apartment fire that night... that Christmas night.  

After a righteous "knockdown" we were walking toward the Chief - it was Dick Kendall for those who are old enough to remember  - a different era. Floodlights lit up the rehab area and Dick, to our great delight, informed us that the coffee runner was just pulling up. We were soaked to the bone, of course, which made the 34º feel like no degrees at all. Andy looked at me and said, "A hot cup of coffee would sure hit the spot right now". A minute later his prediction proved correct.

 Sitting on the tailboard of (I think) Engine 10, steaming and stinking of char, we wrapped our hands around those cups and OMG! The smell, the heat, the taste of Andy's sacred beverage and then the heavenly feeling of warmth spreading through our bodies was euphoric.  I noticed that we were both holding our cups close to our dirt/sweat streaky faces inhaling the steam and sipping the cure for what ailed us. 

Andy glanced at the gutted apartment and watched the guys tear into the ceilings & walls and douse hotspots. He turned back toward me with a peaceful little smile as we reflexively brought our cups together and said, "Merry Christmas, Allan." And of course I returned, "Merry Christmas, Andy".

I miss you, Andy. We all miss you.
