Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, the son of James and Agnes (Smith), he attended St. Edmond’s Elementary and BOK Vocational schools in Philadelphia, PA. He later moved to Collingswood, NJ where he raised his three children, and then resided in New Castle, DE; Longport, NJ; and ultimately retiring to St. Petersburg, FL. Doc enjoyed photography, videography, computers, traveling, watching sports and nothing more so, than spending time with his family and friends. Doc had an infectious laugh and tremendous love for life. He leaves behind his loving companion of 14 years Elma "Betty" Roberts; his sons, James (Denise) of Jacksonville, FL, and Shawn of Collingswood, NJ; his daughter, Danielle Dougherty-Trainer (Joseph) of Haddon Twp., NJ; his grandson, Joseph Jr.; granddaughters, Morgan, Alexis and Delaney; his brothers, James and Daniel; sisters, Veronica "Bonnie" and Marie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Janet; his brother, Richard; and daughter-in law, Lori Ann.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at NorthSide Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, and to the SunCoast Hospice - Silver Team in Largo, FL for their loving care and support.
