July 18, 1937- May 16, 2016
Marlene Rose Young, 78, of Largo passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16th, 2016 at Suncoast Hospice. Born July 18, 1937 in Sharonville, Ohio, to Chester and Alberta Pickering, she attended Sharonville High School, graduating in 1955. In 1973, she settled in Largo, Florida, supporting the Space Shuttle and Space Station Programs as part of her work as an executive secretary at Honeywell, until she retired in 1992. She married David Young in 1983. They enjoyed each other, traveling, and the Florida lifestyle, to which they returned after a brief stint in Houston, Texas, where David worked on the Space Station Program. Marlene took the opportunity to return to her hobby when she retired, sharing her gift for ceramics and pottery with family and friends.
In her retirement, Marlene was active in the community, working for the homeless and for victims of domestic violence. She served on the Board for Religious Community Services and was honored by Florida's Governor for her work and dedication to those in need. For many years, in many ways, she supported people as they recovered the promise of their lives.
Marlene is survived by her husband, David J. Young of Largo; her daughter Nancy of St. Petersburg; her granddaughters, Paige (David), Tandy, and Carleigh; her great-grandchildren, Logan and Cameron; and her beloved sister-in-law, Diane. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Chester. She was a loving friend to Vicky, Diane, and Evan Young and to their families.
A Memorial Service will be held June 1, 2016 at 6:00 P.M. at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Rd., Largo.
