McLaughlin, John H. 93 of Largo died Thursday August 2, 2012 at the Woodside Hospice House in Pinellas Park. Born Dec. 9, 1918 in Mooresville, North Carolina he was the son of the late Robert and Mamie Brantly McLaughlin. John retired from the US Air Force with the rank of Major. During WWII he flew 35 missions over Germany in a B-17 with the 100th Bomb Group and was awarded several decorations including the Distinguished Flying Cross. John also flew numerous other types of air craft both during his military career and afterwards when he established a flying service in the St. Petersburg area. John is survived by his loving wife of almost 66 years Vivian McLaughlin of Largo whom he married Nov. 3, 1946, his daughter J. Diane (Donald) Brown of St. Helena Island, S. Carolina,daughter in law Wilma McLaughlin of Tallahassee,Fl., three grandchildren; Lisa Law, Wende Burel and Demian McLaughlin and six great grandchildren. He is pre deceased by his son Robert Joel McLaughlin, brother Phillip McLaughlin and his sister in law Rachel McLaughlin. A memorial service will be 11:00am Saturday August 25 at The Moss Feaster Funeral Home-Serenity Gardens Chapel-13401 Indian Rocks Rd. Largo, Florida 33774. Entombment will be in Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, Largo. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Suncoast Hospice.
