MEINSEN, Herman F., III, 76 of Seminole, Florida Passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, FL. Herman was born on October 7, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Baptist Hospital to the late Herman F and Mamie (Kerr) Meinsen, Jr. He is also predeceased by a son Robert Walton, a brother Joe and a sister Margaret, his Uncle Fred Meinsen and his grandparents on both sides of the family.
The family moved to St. Petersburg in 1941 with Herman’s father and his Uncle Fred opening a gas station at 1st Avenue North and 16th Street. Herman learned to work on cars, electric equipment, radio’s and TV’s and just about anything around the house. Herman’s real love was aviation and spent the first five years of his marriage rebuilding an airplane. He went to work at what is now known as the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport at the age of 17. He worked for many operations there but spent most of his time at Pinellas Aircraft as an aircraft mechanic which had many owners thru the years. Herman moved to Aerocomm Systems and started working on aircraft radio’s. He moved to Hanger One at Tampa airport in 1991 and retired in 2000. Herman belonged to several aircraft organizations and received many safety awards over the years.
Herman is survived by his loving wife of over 49 years Joyce Grant Meinsen, two son’s Randal Meinsen and Jimmy Walton, brother John (Duchess) Meinsen and family and daughter in law Linda Walton along with her children and their families. He is also survived by two Aunts on his mother’s side Lois Bowman and Irene Snow with many cousins and a brother in law James Grant.
