Betty was born to Dola K. (Flowers) and Arlis Ray Douglas on January 8, 1933 in Steele, Missouri. She is survived by her children, Michael (Jo Anne) Hall of Michigan and Timothy (Sherri) Hall of Seminole; 5 grandsons, 1 granddaughter; 1 great-grandson and 5 great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings, beloved husband Albert, treasured daughter Paula Kay (Hall) Eimer and precious infant granddaughter, Stacy Lynn Eimer.
Her early childhood years were spent in Missouri where, even as a young child, she learned the lessons of hard work as she and her family toiled in the cotton fields. Seeking greater opportunity, the family moved to Battle Creek, Michigan where she attended Battle Creek Public Schools. It was in there that Betty met Albert Hall and the couple married on November 29, 1947. He was the love of her life.
In their early married life, Albert was an iron worker which required him to travel to many cities throughout Michigan. To ensure that their little family stayed together, they lived in a small trailer so that they could move to the communities where he worked. This included spending several summers in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where Albert worked on construction of the Mackinaw Bridge. After suffering an injury, Albert left iron work and he and Betty established a very successful home building business. They also purchased and operated the Grand Ledge Lumber Company and the Grand Ledge Brick and Supply Company.
In 1972 Betty and Albert “retired” and moved to Florida. They soon found that they were too young to be idle so they established a pre-hung door manufacturing company in Clearwater. Several years later, Betty became interested in the medical field and founded a neurological testing business. She later expanded the business to include a satellite office in Ohio and eventually moved there. Following Albert’s death in 1995, she sold her business and returned to Florida to “retire” again. Feeling the need to be active and involved with people, she returned to the workforce once more. She worked in the office of Dr. Michael Riley until his retirement and following that, the office of Dr. Peter Mason. She faithfully served in Dr. Mason's office until she was nearly 80 years old at which time her health began to fail. Realizing that she could no longer be safe living without assistance, she sold the home she purchased upon her return to Florida -- a place she lovingly referred to as her “square box”. She moved to Regal Palms Assisted Living Facility and later transitioned to Cypress Palms where she resided until her passing.
Throughout each phase of Betty's life, she met challenges with fearless determination. It seemed there was nothing she couldn’t do. She was intelligent, courageous, creative, curious and kind. She took immense pride in her home and loved spending time with her friends. More than anything, she adored her family. She was keenly interested in their activities and was always available with a listening ear, sage advice and boundless love. Though she will be missed beyond all measure, we will forever treasure her memory and the lessons she taught us.
Our family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of Regal, Cypress, Sabal Palms for their wonderful care. Also, special thanks to Morton Plant Hospital and Suncoast Hospice of Pinellas for their support the extraordinary care of our amazing Mother and Grandmother.
A funeral service will be held at 12 pm Tuesday, Sept. 27th at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Rd. Largo, Florida 33774. Visitation is scheduled to be held at the funeral home from 10am-12pm prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park.
