Barbara Ann Walker Robinson was born on November 12, 1954, in Largo, Florida to the late Annie Mae Hill and Marshall Walker, Sr. She became a Christian at an early age and was united in Christian fellowship with Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Lee. She was baptized and sang in the children’s choir. While in high school, she became a Junior Sheriff and licensed cosmetologist. After graduating from Largo High School in 1972, she worked at a local salon before accepting a position with Delta Airlines. At the airline, she performed multiple roles during her nineteen years with the company working as a baggage handler, ticket agent, baggage claim clerk, and auditor.
On February 5, 1981, she married James B. Robinson, Jr in Tampa, Florida, and later moved to Odessa, Florida. On December 20, 1984, she became a devoted mother to their daughter, Jasmine. She eventually left the airline and concentrated full-time on her lifelong dream of owning and working at her salon in the 1990s. Throughout her lifetime, James and Barbara ran several businesses including Booster’s Beauty Supply, the Robbins Nest Unisex Salon, and Babs (an online clothing store). They also enjoyed traveling with one another. She loved her family and friends, enjoyed attending family gatherings, playing cards, and was very involved with her grandchild, Keenan “KJ” Cutler, whom she affectionately called her “Little Man.”
She was known for her creativity, cooking, and baking. Her family enjoyed her famous pecan sandies and pound cake. She enjoyed sewing, creating one-of-the-kind hairstyles and garments, doing macrame, and crocheting. She remained an involved member of her church until her health started failing her. At 4:58 AM on Sunday, August 13, 2023, surrounded by her husband and daughter, she answered the Master’s Call.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Mae Hill; father, Marshall Walker, Sr.; sisters, Gloria Hill and Ethel Dorsey; special friends Jeannie Mae Boyd and Elaine Canady; and various aunts, uncles, and cousins.
