Braz, Antonio, 86, passed away on February 20, 2010 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maria Candida Braz; daughter, Isabel Martins; grandsons, Joseph and Matthew Martins; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Delmira and Jose Antunes; sister, Adelaide Caneira; nephew, Manuel Caneira; and an extended family and friends. Originally from Portugal, he immigrated to the United States in 1940 and resided in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. While in New Jersey, he owned Liberty Food Market in Elizabeth and was active in the Portuguese community. In 1987 he retired to Largo, Florida where he continued his connection with the Portuguese community by being an active member of the Portuguese American Suncoast Association in St Petersburg. He was a member of St Jerome Catholic Church in Largo. Antonio was very much loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Flowers will be accepted and contributions may be made in Antonio’s memory to the Suncoast Hospice (Ivory Team), 5770 Roosevelt Blvd.,CLW, FL 33760.
Viewing will be from 2-4 & 6-8pm Tuesday (Feb.23) at the funeral home chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10am Wednesday (Feb. 24) at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 10895 Hamlin Blvd., Largo, FL 33774.
