She was married for 70 years to Donald Burt of Lansing Michigan, who predeceased her in June of 2011. They had two children: Dennis (wife Sandy) of Summerfield Florida and Nancy (husband David) of Wilmore, Ky. Velma had four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She had two sisters and a brother who predeceased her.
Velma was active in her local church music programs and taught Sunday School. One of her grandchildren said, “She could play the organ, make the best chocolate peanut butter chip cookie out there. She took us “up north” to her trailer at the lake, taught us to play pool and scrabble and sat through many plays that the cousins performed at holidays. She lived on about five cups of weak, but very hot coffee a day, and lots of sugar. So don’t believe everything the health experts tell you. Everyone who called her Mom, Grandma or GG celebrates her legacy of faith”. We each knew that every morning before her feet hit the floor we had been prayed over.
She was buried beside her husband during a private family service at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Lansing, Michigan.
