Robert F. Mayer

Reverend Robert F. Mayer left this world to be greeted by his heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Pastor Bob was born the fourth of five children to Rev. Herman Mayer and Anna Mayer nee Hagan in Bay City Michigan on Sunday, October 13, 1929. On December 7, 1983, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife Marjorie Elizabeth Knoll Mayer. They were married in St. Louis, MO on June 14, 1952. Together they had four children, William (Kathy) Mayer, Margaret (Bob) Zancanella, Elizabeth (David) Mestelle, and Julie Mayer.

On August 18, 1985, Bob married Joan Wyble. Joan brought six more children and their spouses to the family, Beth (Frank) Gregg, Rick Wyble, Laurey Wyble, Randy (Laura) Wyble, Nancy (Michael) Vance , Robert (Becky) Wyble, and Jenna (Bret) Marr. Together they loved and were loved by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Joan passed away on November 14, 2020 with Bob at her side.

Pastor Bob and Margie served his vicarage in Council Bluffs, IA. Following ordination, they were called to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Tampa, FL in 1955. Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Greensboro, NC called Bob and family in late 1961. They remained there until called to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lansing, MI in June 1972. In April 1987, Bob and Joan were called by First Lutheran Church, Helena, MT. He and Joan retired and moved back to Lansing in 1995. Pastor Mayer served as Mission Executive Director for the English District, LCMS 1997-1998. In 1997, Bob began a second career with Enrichment Ministries helping churches organize capital campaigns to start programs, hire staff and build additions throughout the United States. He fully retired in 2013 to spend more time with Joan and family. Bob and Joan were faithful members of Martin Luther Chapel in East Lansing, Michigan for the last 25 years. Throughout his ministry, Bob worked to create disciples of all nations. He was passionate about breaking down barriers between ALL God’s people.

Services for Reverend Mayer will be led by Pastor Dave Dressel Monday, October 10, 2022 at Martin Luther Chapel in East Lansing, MI at 11:00 a.m. There will be a visitation with friends and family one hour before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
