Mary Eloise Hackett, 70, of Bath, Michigan, passed away on December 13, 2022. Mary was the life of the party and whatever she did, she did it with passion. Mary attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School and Monsignor John A. Gabriel High School before attending THE University of Michigan. Despite growing up in East Lansing, Mary was a diehard Michigan fan. Her knowledge of the team was encyclopedic, from players to stats, and she took great pride in meeting Coach Bo Schembechler on several occasions. Mary loved cheering on the Wolverines almost as much as she loved celebrating their playoff wins. Game days were sacred, and family would avoid calling her during that time, especially if they were fans of the rival team.
Mary worked for Jacobson’s and Bonwit Teller before starting her family, and had a great eye for fashion. She had an amazing collection of clothes, shoes and purses. Purple, pink, leopard and anything maize and blue were her favorites. She enjoyed watching football, sewing, pulling pranks and spending time with family and friends. Mary and Lou Eisbrenner raised two beautiful children whom they loved very much. Mary will be missed for her jokes (it has been confirmed that she is indeed the oldest of her siblings), her larger than life personality and her bright smile. With the middle name Eloise, Mary found great humor in the “Eloise” series of children’s books, which recount the adventures of a young girl residing at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. She loved a good laugh, and family records reveal that there was not a single occasion where Mary, since memorizing her father’s Jacobson’s credit card as a teen, was unable to recite that number with absolute precision and without hesitation.
Mary leaves behind her two beloved children, Joan (Martin) LaPoint and Louis William Eisbrenner; her grandchildren, Martin Jr., Aubree, and Matthew; her siblings, Karen (James) Barrow, Robert (Faith) Hackett, and Lester Myers; her nieces and nephews, Katy (John) Esquivel, Lauren (Bruce) Barone, Matthew (Martine) Koestner, Christian Hackett and Chelsea Myers; her great nephews, Adam, John IV, Brucie and Henry; her cousins, Brian (Debra) and Mark (Dee) Jakubiak and her many Hackett cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Helen Hackett; cousins, Dr. Paul Jakubiak, Dr. Ronald Jakubiak, Janet Mondol, Sharon Smythe; and her companion, Patrick Dwyer.
A special thanks to her caretaker Wendy Beckett and her son Louis Eisbrenner for their loving care during her declining health.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish in East Lansing; Saturday March 25, 2023 at 11:30am. Family will receive friends and family before the service, beginning at 10:30am
Mary loved flowers, so flowers are welcome and will be enjoyed by many.
