Mrs. Perry is survived by her granddaugher, Elizabeth Bavers, MD (David Bavers, MD) and great-granddaughter Isabella Bavers, of Ypsilanti; her former daughter-in-law, Christine Campbell, of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews in Tennessee. Juanita was preceded in death by her son, William Michael Perry, her husband William H. Perry, her sister and brother-in-law Bobbie and Jay Melton of Tullahoma, TN, and her sister and brother-in-law Marion and Roy Roney of Murfreesboro, TN.
Juanita was born on April 29, 1929 in Shelbyville, TN, of Laura Margarette (nee Jordon) and Thomas Alonzo Lyda. Mr. Lyda died in Juanita's youth, and Laura was remarried to Roy White of Shelbyville, TN.
She graduated from Central High School, Bedford County, TN in 1948. In 1952, Juanita, Bill, and Michael moved to Lansing. She worked in retail over 60 years. Starting with Lansing Dry Goods; then Arbaugh's and Wurzburg's; and Knapps's. For the last 30 years of her career, Juanita worked as manager of China and Crystal, and Housewares, at Hudson's, Marshall Field's, and Macy's. She retired from Macy's in November 2013.
Juanita loved gardening, baking, cooking and canning, knitting and crocheting, and all animals, especially her two little dogs Buddy and Nina, who survive her.
Her family and friends will always remember her as a generous, kind, caring, strong woman, who would speak her mind.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Juanita's life. A visitation for Juanita will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 East Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912, followed by her funeral service at 6:00 PM.
A private family burial will take place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 West Grand River Avenue, Lansing, MI 48906.
The family would like to thank the staff at Home Instead, especially Angela, Jayson, Rakael, and Amy, and the nursing and medical staff at Sparrow Hospital, 5 West, and the Palliative Care Team.
