John Edington was by far the most generous, kind, patient and loving educator this world has ever known.  My cousin and I were his students, at Purdue Calumet.  His class was the catalyst to my meeting my wife,  and our both attending medical school.

Years, later, his bright and engaging nature still serves as my inspiration for teaching medical school students.  Most of all, it has inspired me to find happiness in helping others. 

I loved, valued and admired this man.  He will live on through me and the countless other students he touched.  

Mr. Edington filmed every one of my basketball games and probably my football games also. He was a true gentleman and a true scholar! RIP Mr. Edington! 

Nice memories of our class trip to the Indiana Dunes with Mr. Eddington about 1968 or so. 


I got to know Mr. Edington through my project bio class my junior year. I was lucky enough to be chosen as an aide for my senior year and also took his AP bio class. I can’t say enough about what an amazing experience it was. I remember him so fondly as a kind, funny, and patient man.  I loved hearing his stories  and even all these years later I share stories about project bio with my own kids.  I offer my most sincere condolences. 

I graduated from Munster High School in 1983, and took the Project Biology class with Mr. Edington.  That class made a lasting impression on me, and so did Mr. Edington.  He was a great teacher and a great person.  May God grant him peace.

Mr Edington was a great teacher and friend to so many. 
My fondest memory of him was his smile and him riding on the back of my motorcycle on our way to work at Youngstown Sheet and Tube. 
May his memory be for a blessing. 

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Edington. He was my biology teacher when I was a freshman at MHS and he was a wonderful teacher. But, more important, he was always kind to me and was always willing to give me some extra help when biology became challenging. I send my deep condolences to his family and hope that his memory will always be a blessing. 

I was so very sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Edington. I was his student over three decades ago and I still remember him as if it were yesterday. He shaped a love of science and biology which set me on a course to study it in college and hopefully become a doctor. While that didn’t come to pass (I found a new passion in economics), he resonated like few others teachers. My fondest memory doesn’t have anything to do with the classroom at MHS but rather the extra course he taught, affectionately named “Project Bio” for those of us fortunate enough to enroll and willing to take an additional class at 6:45am…here is what I shared on Facebook and I hope his family can smile from this memory… 

“One of the many teachers who shaped my life and my appreciation of science. I didn’t end up going to med school as I initially intended, but in large part it was his teaching that made me want to try to further this world through science. 

One of my favorite memories has nothing to do with his teaching. 

I will always remember him during the “Project Bio” spring trip to Florida. He knew there were a number of athletes on the trip and we were preparing for the upcoming season. So he offered to get us up for a morning run if we so chose. He stood in the middle of camp and yelled “Joggers and runners! Joggers and runners!” I can hear it to this day. 

Also his commentary on coffee “How can anything that smells so good taste so bad”

We lost a good one.

Though I never personally had John Edington as a teacher, definitely knew of him and I know he was a very highly thought of Munster instructor. I learned about the news from a fellow MHS Alum out here in Metro Phoenix, Arizona. My very deepest condolences!!
