Jerrell was born on April 20, 1947 in Lansing, Michigan. He was reared by his father, Oscar and Louis Richardson, and grandmother, Wornnie Lee Finnell.
Jerrell attended school in the Lansing school district, Davenport University, and was a Purple Heart Recipient for his service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
While these accomplishments were grand in gesture and encouraging to those who supported him, Jerrell will be remembered for so much more. With a kind smile and a joyful spirit, Jerrell was best at being JR. He loved to laugh, dance, and cook chicken wings. Never turning down an opportunity to have a great time with family and friends. These are the moments we live for, and he showed up unapologetically in true JR fashion to almost every one of these moments. From birthdays, to holidays, to family reunions and block parties. He was human in all his ways but beneath the broken pieces there was a treasure in that heart that will be forever remembered. We are thankful for the fond memories and the times we were allowed to spend with him on this side of Heaven.
Jerrell leaves to treasure his honor and memories: his daughter, Jenia; grandchildren, Jermaine, Joshua, Justin, Jammari, and Joy; stepdaughters, Sarah and Shannon Ruiz; and a host of cousins, friends, and extended family.
Per the family's request, a private service for Jerrell will be taking place.
In closing we would like to leave this verse from Matthew 5:4, Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts and we forgive our debtors and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil; for thine is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory now and forever. Amen.
