HOLLAND, MI (formerly of Lansing, MI)
Jack Baker was born May 6, 1925 in Haslett, MI to Erastus and Anna Baker, the youngest of 5 children and died on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the age of 91, in his home at Freedom Village, Holland, MI. Jack passed peacefully from this world into the presence of Jesus Christ, comforted by the promise of Salvation in John 3:16. Jack enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and football in high school. He dropped out of high school to join the Navy war effort in 1943. After the war he finished high school and other training to work for 40 years in sales and service of office machines. On August 28, 1948, he married Donna Mae Brown and settled in Lansing MI where they raised their family. The center of their life was the church. Jack was a key developer and builder of Colonial Village Baptist Church and served faithfully in many capacities. After moving to Holland, he continued to support the church. Jack always loved playing golf, pool, games and cards. Jack could fix or build anything, “a jack of all trades” was true and he was able to master many. He and Donna returned to live on Lake Lansing “in the house that Jack built” right next door to where he grew up. Many friends and family benefitted from Jack’s abilities to fix anything and his willingness to help all.
He is joining his wife, Donna; son, Jeff and many other loved ones. Surviving are his children, Gary Baker of Gilbert, AZ., Nancy (Lee) Lewis of Wheaton, IL., Tim (Kristen) Baker of Wheaton, IL.; grandchildren, Brittany (John) Fellowes, Brooke (Marcus) Malcolm, David Baker, Mary (Travis) Buck, Andrew Baker and Deborah Baker; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Colonial Village Baptist Church, 2010 Boston Blvd., Lansing MI with visitation 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Randy Morgan will be officiating.
