Son of Earle and Margaret (Mahan) Clegg
Survived by wife, Betty (Braford) Clegg, sons Robert (Jennifer Allswede), and Bradlee (Margaret); grandchildren Kathryn and Sean Clegg.
Hal graduated from Ferris State College and taught in Lansing Schools- Walter French, Dwight Rich, and finally Everett High School, where his father Earle and sons also taught.
Hal loved the outdoors and wildlife. He was a counselor with Camp Ebersole, including a canoe trip in Canada. He spent a summer on Beaver Island, studying biology. Hal enjoyed hunting and spending time with his sons. They participated in the YMCA Guides.
He was an active member at First United Methodist Church in Lansing, serving as treasurer and sitting on various committees.
In retirement, Hal worked at the Lansing State Journal, collecting for single issue sales.
He was a frequent Red Cross blood donor, due to his O negative blood type, earning his 15 gallon pin.
Hal cared for others. He helped maintain the homes of many in his extended family. He passed on his handyman knowledge and sense of service to his sons.
Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday January 19 at Gorsline-Runciman Tiffany Chapel, 3232 W. Saginaw. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, 1900 Boston Blvd.
Flowers are welcome. However, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lansing Educational Advancement Foundation, which provides grants to teachers and scholarships for students. Gifts can be sent to 5815 Wise Road Lansing, Michigan 48911, in memory of Harold Clegg.
