Douglas Collier was a graduate of Eastern High School, Class of 1980. He was in property management for several years before becoming employed with the State of Michigan. He started his State of Michigan career as a purchasing agent for the Department of Management and Budget. From there, he became a Contract and Finance Manager for the Michigan Department of Education. Among his many accomplishments while at the State of Michigan, Doug was most proud of the Good Government Award, which he received from Governor Jennifer Granholm.
Doug’s love for life and people had no bounds. He was a devoted father and family man and enjoyed time spent with his sons, Myles and Landon, hunting for morels, outdoor activities, and as an Off-Ice MSU Hockey Official. He never missed Myles’ or Landon’s hockey or soccer games. He cherished his four-legged friends and spent much time volunteering at the Humane Society with Landon. Doug was also a master craftsman when it came to woodworking. He loved history and old things; especially important to him was passing on his family ancestry to his sons.
Doug is predeceased by his parents, James Hassell Collier, Faye Trout Peterman, Red Peterman and sister, Margie Clark. He is survived by his 2 sons, Myles Douglas Collier (Krystal), Landon Samuel Collier, and their mothers, Dianna Annas (Collier) and Jan Cilla-Collier. Surviving siblings include Debra (Chuck) Robinson, Greg (Jane) Collier, Pam Ransom, and grandchildren, Emery, Lilliana, and Christopher; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friend Tamara Triplett.
Memorial service will be at noon on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church, 14769 Wood Road, Lansing, MI 48906. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Humane Society.
