Carolyn Howe

Carolyn Howe was born in Lexington, Virginia in 1943 to David Richard

Perkins II and Virginia Carolyn Hyler. Her youth was spent in Virginia, the

Carolinas, and a couple of years in South America.

She graduated from Lumberton High school and East Carolina University

with a degree in nursing. Upon graduation, she was commissioned a Navy

nurse, and served by attending many young, injured Marines during the Viet

Nam War. Upon discharge from the Navy, she moved to Miami, Florida in

search of a nursing career in a warmer climate. There, she met Paul at a

Labor Day picnic in 1972. They were married in January, 1973, and spent their “honeymoon” driving to Paul’s

next duty station near Sacramento, California. After 4 brief years there, they moved to Iceland for two years

before moving to the Lansing area to settle down. In Lansing, Carolyn worked as a registered nurse at Ingham

Regional Medical Center (McLaren Hospital), and Blue Care Network, before retiring. In retirement, she loved

gardening, pulling weeds (which we have in abundance) and being out in the warm summer sun.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Paul, daughters Kelly (Michael) Angell and Karina (Timothy)

Brown, step-mother Maxine Perkins, and grandchildren Aleksander Foster, Nadia Foster, Madelynn Angell,

Isaac Angell, and Anneliese Brown, and brother David R.III (Margaret) Perkins.

At Carolyn’s request, there will be no memorial service. A gift in her memory may be made to the Salvation

Army, the Holt or Greater Lansing Food Banks, or the Humane Society. All are organizations she was fond of

supporting.
