Alfred N. Grimes, of Lansing, Michigan and formerly of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, passed away March 17, 2014, at the age of 93. Alfred was born September 22, 1920, in Munith, Michigan to the late David and Lela (Sova) Grimes. He was a graduate of both Eaton Rapids High School and Michigan State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp. Alfred retired as a teacher from Lansing School District. He was known as a dedicated worker, and served over 42 years at Camp Michael in Imlay City, Michigan. He was an avid outdoorsman. Alfred was also a man of faith and was an active member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. He loved his family dearly and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine, in 1998. Surviving to cherish his memory are his children: Katheryne S. (Mikel) Kempf, Philip A., Patricia L. (John) Himes, Deborah A. (Bruce) Tingley; grandchildren: Melissa (Scott) Ciloski, Amy (Albert) Hittle, Kelly Kehres, Josh (Bopha) Kempf, Matthew (Teresa) Tingley, Paul Himes, and Kristy (Wesley) Taylor; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Dolores) Grimes; and sister, Minnie Marilyn Klink.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 21, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Maple Grove Baptist Church 5907 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Lansing, Michigan 48910. The family will receive friends for visitation two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Grove Baptist Church c/o Camp Michael Scholarship Fund.
