I have tried to write this several times, but have found it difficult.  It's probably the hardest thing I've ever had to write. How can I condense 30 years of special memories into just a page or two? In truth, I could write a novel and still feel like it wasn't enough. My dad was a great man. I miss him a lot.

When my mom was pregnant with me, my dad said he thought I was going to be a boy. In fact, many people bet on it. Boy were they wrong! Instead, he got a daddy's girl. My dad was a teacher and a great role model. He showed me the value of hard work, taught me how to maintain a car before I could even drive one, and how fix stuff around the house.  I think I was painting and mudding walls before I was even 12. I enjoyed taking something ugly and making it fresh and new again. It's not about the house you live in, it's the home you make out of it. My first house, he helped build a suite in it. He wanted me to have the opportunity to get ahead  and begin a new chapter in my life. It was there he taught me how to tile my laundry room.  After that, it was different projects here and there. I liked learning how to do things and most of all, spending time with him. It was just our thing.

Before work and reno's took up my time, I played soccer. He was my biggest fan. He was always at my games cheering me on rain or shine. I don't  think he missed a  game.  My teammates liked him. He was the dad standing beside the coach holding a golf umbrella for some of my teammates so they wouldn't get wet waiting to be subbed in.

My dad and I had a special relationship. Sometimes I think it's because we are a like in many ways. We aren't always expressive of how we feel, but do things for people to show we care.  Dad was one of those people who would give the shirt off of his back if someone needed it.  Anytime I needed him, he was there.  When it came to his girls, he had a hard time saying no.  He always wanted us to be happy.  I remember back when I was  10 years old.  Being the animal lover I am, I really wanted a kitten.  I begged and pleaded for one, but we couldn't have one where we lived, so he said no.  I thought I could convince him to let me get one anyway, if I could only show him that I could be responsible. I saved up my allowance and bought a collar, a litter box, and all the things a cat would need.  He didn't like that I spent my money on it knowing I couldn't have one at the time, but he understood how badly I wanted it and didn't put up too much of a fight.  One day, he came home carrying this big box. When I asked what it was, he said he didn't know and to open it carefully as he quickly handed it over to me . I had no idea what could be in such a big box, nor did I know why he was asking ME to open it. Curiousity had me scrambling to open it.  Inside the box was a tiny black  kitten with little white feet. Her sweet little green eyes looked up at me.  No gift could have ever topped her.  I had her for 20 years.  Few people understand my love for animals like he did.
It makes me sad to think that he wont be here in person to walk me down the isle or the fact that he was robbed of the experience of being a grandpa. It's hard to say goodbye knowing the world is loosing such a great person.  I do know one thing, the next man to sit at the head of our family dinner table has big shoes to fill. 
My dad wasn't just a dad, he was a friend. Although his suffering is finally over and for that, I am greatful, I miss him very much.

We met Bob as a neighbour at our block party potluck.Enjoyed his homemade soup and was amazed at his talent in the renovation of his home. When it was obvious that he was not well he still took the time to help my wife to dig out our driveway for the appliance repairman. My wife and I enjoyed the celebration of Bob's life today and I found out that we had mutual friends! What a small world! Our prayers our with the family in this time of loss and grief. It is difficult fitting 27 years of memories into only a few pages, truth be told there is no way I could sum up such a great man in such few sentences. My dad was a giving and supportive man. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for anyone, whether it was changing a tire in the rain at the side of the road or helping with math homework. He was always there to lend a hand even if it meant he had to drop what he was doing.
My dad sometimes had trouble opening expressing how he felt about his family and friends. He preferred to show it through thoughtful acts of kindness or by doing things for other people. My dad loved to camp, even if it was pouring rain and the forecasts showed it would flood we would go anyways! He would fight for hours in the dark to make sure the tarp was perfect just to keep us girls dry. At times he would get desperate and use a wrench to catch the rope on a tree branch. Although it worked most of the time, he occasionally received black eyes from the rope missing the branches altogether. Even in the middle of the night he was always worried we would get wet. I couldn’t count how many times I woke up from the rain and heard my dad digging trenches around our tent or fixing the tarps to make sure his babies wouldn’t get soaked. And by babies I mean twenty-something year olds. You were never too old to have dad bring you coffee or hot chocolate to your tent door or for him to check in on you to make sure you were warm enough in the night. He loved sitting around the campfire talking about places he wanted to go or things he wanted to do. You could always count on my dad for a crackling campfire, freshly perked coffee and good company.
He was more than just my dad, he was soccer coach, teammate, crib partner and most of all one of my best friends. I find it hard to imagine my life without him but in my heart I know he will be with me every step of each and every day.

I remember..Bob...the first time I met him and his wife Cheryl and family..as very warm and so much compassion and so full of life...he was sort of humerous when he was playing cards at jimbos house...serious and not serious..at times I didn't know if he was serious or not but fun to be around...didn't know Bob and family for very long but they all had such a warm spirit around them that made u feel so comfortable to be around and not many people has that quality...He will be sadly missed with his charisma and his laughter...God Bless..Safe In The Arms of Jesus...luvya loretta
