It is with deep sorrow that we regretfully announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend Michael Peter Bos. He has taken with him a piece of our hearts and left behind many fond memories.
Mike is survived by his mother Afra Bos (nee Van Tunen), his sisters Maria and Judy (John), his brothers Paul (Tonja) and Rick and his many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, as well as his Uncle George (Bets) and Aunt Rose (Cor) and Aunt Wilhelmina (Cees) in the Netherlands and numerous cousins and friends in both Canada and the NL. He is predeceased by his father John Bos who passed away 2 years ago in November, 2020.
Mike was born on May 22, 1962 at St Mary’s hospital in New Westminster. He grew up in the Fraser Valley, which he loved and where he lived and worked mostly all of his life. After graduating from Princess Margaret Senior Secondary, Mike went on to earn a BSc. with honours majoring both in biology and chemistry. He then spent a year abroad, backpacking across much of Asia and Europe. On his return, he studied computer technology and drafting at BCIT and worked for many years as an IT technician and systems analyst for companies such as SNC Lavelin and the Teal Jones Group.
Although his work life was mainly computer related, Mike also had great construction skills and assisted his parents and siblings on innumerable renovation and building projects. He also enjoyed gardening and outdoor activities, and in his younger years was an avid hiker.
Mike loved animals and was never without a dog or cat as beloved pets. He also enjoyed walking, family get togethers, good conversation, reading, and finding out how things worked. He was extremely knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects from world events to the latest electronic gadgets. If anyone in the family needed something fixed or built or understood, Mike was the person to ask.
At 6 feet 4 inches tall, Mike was a big man. He was noticed when he stepped into a room. But he was a big man with a big heart—caring, sensitive, funny, kind, interested in others, dutiful, and responsible with a keen sense of fairness and justice. He will be greatly missed.
